I have been looking foward to this game for a while now as I enjoy a good tactical wargame. I need to spend more time with it to complete part 2 of the review and give it a final score, but so far I enjoy it a lot. The rules are elegant and very managable and for the most part the user interface is excellent with some minor quirks.

The review can be found here: http://www.oneguytoomanygames.com/2012/05/conflict-of-heroes-awakening-bear.html

As always feel free to make comments or ask questions here or on my site. It is a bit longer than the rest of my reviews, so hopefully I didn't overdo it.

Sorry James. I forgot that I don't log into the Steam's community by default. I turned it off when someone was annoying me. I'll email you.

Please don't tell me a Matrix game is on Steam? This would be the beginning of the end.

It's not.  Doesn't multiplayer use the Slitherine server?

It doesn't use Steam.  It does use Slitherine's server.  I imagine they are talking about steam simply as way of seeing that they are online.

I responded to Rob's analysis in some detail over on matrix forums which I won't repeat here except for the important tip that if you have trouble seeing the models, try turning on the labels with the 'n' key.  Makes it much easier to follow.

That's it: just for communication, the game uses Slitherine's servers.

Yep, we're just using Steam to communicate sometimes.

Joram has some good comments and are worth a read for those who are interested in the game. I'll have another reposne a little later :-).

Guys, I am looking forward to your reviews of COH-PC which I imagine will be detailed, analytical, and highly substantive.

I use a different approach called the "Oh My god" rating system based on instinctual reactions generated by the amygdala: an almond-shaped set of neurons located deep inside the limbic system. "In humans, it is the most sexually-dimorphic brain structure, and shrinks by more than 30% in males upon castration." Where in the !@# did Daily Science get that data from?

Just for fun, here is my list of OMg PC war games:

Battles of Napoleon-SSI-1988

Battleground: Bulge-Ardenness-1995

Combat Mission Overlord-Battlefront-2000

Day of Defeat-Activision-2004

COH-Slitherine-Matrix-Academy Games-2012

Regards,

Haigg

This game is the first turn-based 'grog' wargame that I've seen that uses pixel shader 3.0.  Can't play it on my netbook.

Haven't played it on my PC yet but I'm expecting it to be very graphically pleasing.

Hey for a hex based wargame the graphics are nice, other than some oddities like the chits blurring when moused over, and smoke obscuring the wound markers. It isn't FPS nice, or CIV V nice, but wargame - nice! :-)

Ahh I just played it.  At least it has bloom effects.

Lol.  But yeah the counters could be more detailed and less blurry.

FYI, I noticed that the counters are much less blurred when the top down view is used.

Thanks for the time to post it. I was looking forward to its release. Not having the time to playright now, I've waited for a good review and yours has sold me on it. So thanks, I've moved it up on my que of titles to pick up when work slows down a bit.

You're welcome! Glad I could help. Hopefully you'll enjoy it too when it gets high enough in your queue.

It's at the top of the que right now, brother. I just need to find some time to get my game on.
