Interesting that you would say it's "too short" since it has 4 acts just like Diablo 2 and twice as many quests as Diablo 2. So, it's actually larger than Diablo 2 and offers up more randomization than Diablo II.

You can bet that gold spammers will still hit you with their advertising. Hell, when I went to create a new Battle.net account, both of my webmail addresses had already been used by attempted hijackers. The targeted advertising (aka privacy invasion) is being sold to a bunch of gold farmers - you can even see some of them advertising right on your webmail if you've ever mentioned Blizzard in one of your own.
I'm not too happy with their use of your email address for your login, and the above mentioned happenings will cause some security issues with more than a few.
I guess we'll see what it's like to sell stuff, and be gold spammers ourselves, huh?
When's this craziness begin, exactly?

I never use my main email address when I buy these things or get into an MMO. That's just smart security. I have a couple of flash drives I keep all my extra emails and passwords on. So, I don't care about email spam I only use them again if I'm selling the account or need to talk to support. If you want to sell online digital games anymore you almost have to create a new email account everytime. No biggie since with yahoo you can have all you need. So until games are assigned to specific computers this is the way to make sure you can sell your game when/if you want to.

Seriously? You liked the first one more than the second?
Was it just the newness that wore off, then? Because the second one was basically the first with more stuff!

Got constant error 37 'Servers are too busy'.
But after an hour I was able to login and play for some time.
I really miss the gritty realistic style of Diablo 2. I don't like the cartoony graphics of 3. Nonetheless I had great fun and see me playing this for quite some time.

Look Who's Gold Farming Nowwww!
From the FAQ:
What's Blizzard's cut?
As with other online auction sites and real-world auction houses, our fee structure will vary by region. However, we plan to collect a nominal fixed transaction fee for each item listed in the auction house. This fee consists of a fixed charge to list the item, which is assessed whether or not the item is successfully sold, and an additional fixed charge that is assessed only if the item is sold. The listing portion of the fee, which helps encourage sensible listing prices and discourage the mass posting of items that are very low quality or would be of little interest to other players, will be waived for a limited number of transactions per account. For players who opt to have the proceeds of their auction house sales go to their third-party payment service account instead of to their Battle.net account, Blizzard will collect a separate "cash-out" fee. Specific details regarding these fees will be announced at a later date.

Despite all my ridicule, I still itch to hack & slash in D3. No shame.

I think it was a little of the 'newness that wore off' but it was more a growing issue I had with a lot of RPG type games of that era where the sequels were just flat out way too long and I would tire of them before ever finishing. Loved Baldurs Gate and finished it to the very end, never finished Baldurs Gate 2 because it just went on and on and on and on.....I don't want an RPG that takes 100 hours to finish. Icewind Dale to Icewind Dale 2, same thing. Same thing with Fallout 1 and then 2. IMHO, there can be too much of a good thing. With Diablo 2 it seemed like the dessert world and the swamp world (chaps 2 and 3?) were endless. I love a good action sci-fi or war movie....but I wouldn't want to sit through an 8 hour movie, same with RPG's....30-40 hours tops, anything longer and it starts to wear thin.

Note to others:
If you're downloading D3, and their Downloader software is sitting at 100%, and says your download is finished.. DO NOT close it. Evidentally it's still sitting there, saying it's "finished" when it's not, and still downloading stuff. It should automatically start the installer once it's really finished. Otherwise you'll get a big fat installation error at the very end and have to start over.

I will have a throwaway e-mail address to set up this battle.net account. Why not? They're free.

But, I try everything. And, I come back to war and strategy games and some FPS wargames.
I also tried the free D3 weekend and even though I have a i7 laptop with 8gb's of ram...the video card is pretty weak..not integrated...but still the game ran like crap. BUT, I still am itching to try it hoping the crap slide show somehow gets better and somehow some magic hits me and I get into it.....my wife hates me.

Your I7 and 8gig wont make a scrap of difference, if you have a graphic bottleneck, you laptop will only be as good as said graphics card in a game like this.

Now THIS is why you don't make your customers have to be online to play or activate your game. It's like an MMO launch and this one is the worst I've ever seen. If they had simply used the cd code system we all know and are used to this wouldn't have happened.

The real pain in the ass was getting the pre-load installer to work. OMFG I've never seen a worse game installer - ever! I had three separate issues between the downloader and the installer packages. Had to go delete certain files extracted from the installer in between a hang and restarting it.
You'd think Blizzard was full of packaging fidiots. Thankfully that mess is over, so when I have to hit "login" a couple extra times is minor in comparison to that previous headache.
Now that that's all done..
Arise, chicken! Arise!

The always on scheme is obvious and is the first to anger you- the high price of admission another but they've taken that a step further and legalized gold farming and directly linking it to user emails. Gameplay wise in an attempt to dumb down what has to be already the simplest system by making abilities automatic they've actually confused everybody. "Why does it show I can use a bow but I can"t?" The cartoon graphics shouldn't surprise anyone but some appear shocked- I guess the bad voice acting wasn't expected-
Hopefully torchlight 2 developers go another direction.
