I fail to see all those game-killing AI glitches some of the reviews write about.

Maybe I'm too used to (and fond of) ArmA 2?

This morning I replayed this custom made scenario I reported in my blog.

The AI doesn't shoot death rays of micrometer precision as one review mentions. You have to be really bad at using cover to get hit with the first shot from a distance. Firefights between infantry, tanks and AT guns are protracted and fun. Unless a MG42 joins the party (boy was the MG42 THAT great?)

. During this morning replay the AI Russians came to the edge of my position and started tossing grenades at my trenches. Great fun.

I have to agree with the reviewers that the single player campaign is in not-so-good shape. Just to put it mildly.

Cheers,

Chelco,

...are there Fausts in the game too, i only saw Schrecks so far ? (which are ok for a AT squad of 2 man)

can you please upload your little AAR scenario (here or over @Grogs  http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=1509.0  which allows 500KB-zip attachments to posts) tomorrow, its fun to read  ...wann try to hold that trench myself ASAP

Hi Mike,

Sure. Be advised the scenario is a little silly thing without briefing, cutscenes or anything else. If you are familiar with the scenario editor, feel free to delete out the Russian T34s for some infantry-only fun.

Also, the fortifications in what I call "the main line of resistance" are non-existant (just a couple of packs and MG42s, put there for effect). this shouldn't be an issue if you stay in the outpost (remember your mission!).

I have a companion website and I will make it available for download there.

These trenches with frontal cover work like a charm but be careful to maintain mutual support. As soon as one of the trenches is neutralized you are liable for a frontal close assault (i.e. one trench overwatches the dead space in front of the other trench: if one trench falls, the other trench will have a huge and dangerous dead space just in front).

As for the portable ATs, I could only see the "shrecks" and not the "fausts". Not completely sure about if they are there.

Cheers,

I pretty sure my machine will run Iron Front with the graphics tuned back.

I think I will need to upgrade to run Heros and Generals.

So...Iron Front it is and the sooner the better.

Mike,

Did you check Gamersgate? It's up and available there. Unless you prefer Steam, off course.

10% off on Gamersgate now.  Guess it paid not to pre-order in this case.  Oh well, I'm enjoying it and ain't going to fret over $3.

Looks worth it for $20

I grabbed it and had a paddle. But I think I will be playing RO2 over this any day.

Sounds are better in RO2 along with the intensity. Interface in iron front is also clunky.

Tank fire does hardly any damage it seems even at point blank? Turrets seem to move very fast too, just like you were holding a rifle.

Hi Mike,

Sorry for the delay. I have something more presentable (and hopefully better) in the works. Same theme, but now a squad strongpoint.

Have you played online lately? Any server you could recommend?

Cheers,

...the 1.02 patch was out this morn on Steam also ... so i tried MP  1-2h and it had a blast

no CTD so far, i chose the server with the lowest ping and a high population,

after some infantry action on a smaller map, they also had a Capture and Hold 120 in the map rotation

and i was able to man StuKa and tried to provide some CAS at a bridgehead...

...looking forward to your improved SP-scenario

Anyone else get the disc for this?  I installed it and had a dabble, then patched up to 1.02 - and now it asks me for some "unlock code" because I "don't have a licence".  Muffed up bloody DRM. Sussin', fussin', mutter, mutter

The campaign is passable (when it doesn't crash), but the editor is where the real fun is.  Creating quick battles allows for a better game.

Anyone get the Ambient Combat Manager module to work in the editor? I'm hoping this isn't broken, as it is the greatest feature of it.

If you aren't familiar with it, it populates any map with friendly and enemy troops randomly.  I've tried using it a few times now in IFL, and it won't work for me (as it does in ARMA2).
