Didn't get much in the way of a response, even though I did notice one of the Wasteland devs checking out the thread. Is this just Time of Fury light or something more?

That's an apt way of describing it, based on the beta. The map scale is larger (meaning more land in a single hex) so the game isn't as unweidly as Time of Fury. Other than that, it has a lot of similarities, as you can see in the video.

You can see it pretty clearly in the video. Most of the time is spent clicking battle reports, so AI decision making seems to be essentially instantaneous.

We wanted to create a lighter strategy game which will allow to complete the campaign during two or three evenings, as we do understood than not everybody has got time to play over 400 turns campaign in Time of Fury.

I'm hoping that your questions has been answered already.

It seems however that whilst ToF Lightning War will have just one scenario 1939-1945 (70 turns) SWIE will have multiple start dates for shorter scenarios. Also seems to have a slightly modified (mainly graphicaly) UI.
If the price is in fact going to be c£10 then even though the LW scenario will be free if you own ToF I will still be tempted to pick this up, mainly because for playing against friends who don't allready have ToF this will be a nice low entry price.
P.S. I might well be wrong in all of the above as other than beta testing the first release of LW from a couple of months back I have no more insight than the rest of you.

The price is going to be 15$, but I'm not sure about pricing in other currencies, due to the taxation and exchange policies of different distributors.
Anyway our main policy was to make it as accessible as the the game itself.

$1 = £1 is a total rip-off for UK customers !
At current exchange rates it should be £7.18 pre-order and £9.58 normal price.
Any suggestions as to where I could buy / pre-order at (or close to) the proper UK price.
P.S. it is not so much the actual price that annoys me it is the blatant overcharging to UK and I suspect European / ROW customers.

Did you tried gamersgate.com instead of gamersgate.co.uk?
I have bought couple of games in the past using co.uk (instead of .com where those were not available).

Tried to go to gamersgate.com but it automatically takes me to gamersgate.co.uk

Sure, bury the fully disclosed details deeper down, accessible for the stats guru. Their fairly pleasant looking games, always seem to be straightjacketed by this verbose interface.

Spelk, actually you can easily turn off those popup messages.

If you turn them off, how do you visually show the player the outcomes of each combat?
Also, can you resize any of the information windows? Or move them around the screen and arrange them yourself?

spelk - I play ToF (and I'm assuming SWIE will be exactly the same) with the combat reports turned off. This works absolutley fine for me as the losses from combat appear on the main game screen as fading numbers rising from the units, so you see the effects of combat which is what I'd be looking for in the full combat results panel and at the same time see exactly where the combat is taking place, which units are participating and where if applicable they are retreating to all represented on the map over the course of a few seconds. If you look carefuly you can see this in the above video though it is rather obscured by the semi-opaque combat results report box a lot of the time.

The newest beta version added the ability to turn combat reports off or display them for a set amount of time before they automatically disappear. I chose 1 second.

Most of the windows (poups) you can freely move on the screen.
You can also do whatever you wish with the GUI. This, however require modification of some csv files, but doesn't require any more skills than basic excel.
