DCS Combined Arms will let you control ground units in the DCS world (and be cannon fodder for the A-10). Lol!
But I suspect ground units won't be high fidelity with regards to controls but generic.

I'm actually pretty fired up about the development news rolling out of ED this past month.  The new "world" as the foundation that binds all the modules together is brilliant.  The incorporation of third party developers is great news as well.  Third party developers are slated with developing a mig -21, an f-14, and a DCS level sim of the F-15E which is an awesome aircraft.  The Combined Arms, though possibly generic as a stand alone, will be great when installed in to the "world".  I forsee us finally getting a dynamic campaign that could put falcon to rest.  Can't wait to fly the A-10 in an MP server with humans controlling JTACs, armored units, air defenses and such...gonna be awesome.

I wasn't happy about the p-51 either, but ED stated it was already half way implemented as a test so it didn't take much resources to finish.  Personally I won't be buying p-51 myself, with the new world setup you are free to buy whatever aircraft you want and it's all MP compatible.

Yeah.  I like the sound of the MiG-21 and the Mud Hen that Skoop mentioned.

P-51?!  Pfah!!

The was no voting on anything. The P-51D module as we see it today started as an in-house tech demo. It turned out so well, though, that they decided to make it into a commercial module.

Why do you always have to be so negative?

Looks interesting to me.  I have heard the no infantry, no buy statement before.   Microprose M1 Tank sim did not have any infantry either, but I often hear varying raves about it.

M1 Tank Platoon 2 had 2d sprite infantry that dismounts from APC when not on the move.  Pretty much like the early iterations of Steal Beats.  Haven't played Steel Beats Pro for a lon' time and not sure if they have 3d infantry already.

^ Steel beasts did get 3d infantry, definately looks better.

There are infantry in CA, you just don't have the same control as vehicles.  You can still give them orders in game.  The whole ground combat is evolving, so no telling what dcs might add in the future.  Check out the review they did at simhq, gives a good idea of how it works.

It was specifically this poll post that had it listed long ago, before the P-51 announcement.

At the time, the P-51 held a small lead on the other modern aircraft.  The poll has been updated since then, with a new list.

It may not have been the do/don't factor in the decision this time, but it sure didn't discourage it.   For a company that's tops for it's realistic cockpit and systems simulation, dumping a P-51 into an integrated multiplayer battlespace with A-10s and other modern hardware, would be an immersion killer.

Getting sidetracked from their great integrated plan, IMO.

I was not aware of the 3D infantry. I just remember the sprite infantry they had which looked like they were only animated every fifth frame.

WOW... this infantry looks worlds better than the original SBproPE infantry.

The top ones are the originals.

If I am not mistaken, that linked poll is upped by a normal forum member, not a dev.

Anyhow, I do agree that the P-51D is a little useless in the operational grand scheme of DCS as it is right now.
