Ticket to Ride is a casual strategy game based on the boardgame with the same name. AI a bit too easy when playing solo, but online play provides a challenge. Very easy game to learn.

Very much on the money.  I would just add that the game is only $10, which makes the Europe and Switzerland DLC kind of pricey at $5 each.  I got it during a first week promotion, and the Europe map was included free, but I'm not comfortable enough with it to take on real people.  Yet.

If you want to try an online game in a non-threatening way we can play a few games. I'm not that good. My ranking is around 9000 out of 12000+. So far I only encountered 1 person who agressively blocked my routes.

Perhaps over the weekend.  I'm able to hold my own to some degree with the US map, but haven't really spent any time on the European one.

What is your schedule like?

I'm not exactly sure when I will be available. My Steam ID is RobC04, so you can shoot me a message if I'm online when you are. The Ticket To Ride update today just made it so my game won't even launch. Hope they fix it soon.

I had the same issue rob but I haven't tried it since to see if it works.  Just so you know the game is faithful to the boardgame.  I have the base USA and Switzerland expansion.   I didn't think the AI was too bad and it definitely gets harder with more people.  I though haven't tried it online yet.  I always wondered about the 'blocking'.  I do it to the AI to win and the AI isn't good at doing it back and I kind of wondered how prevelant it would be when playing people.  My wife and I (and anyone else we can gather) usually just play friendly games.

Now if they just released the Empire Builder series, I would be a happy camper,  err I mean - engineer.

Seems like it works again.

As far as the AI goes, I won probably 13 out of 15 solo games I played so far, but online I am only ranked 9000+ out of 12000+. It isn't that I see the AI making dumb moves, but the results show the AI isn't that much of a challenge. Once there are 4 or 5 AI players it is much harder to win. 5 players is too many for my tastes though. I still play some solo if I want a quick game though so I don't think it is horrible or anything.

How is the solitaire game here? Is there decent replayability?

It is replayable like a boardgame is replayable - same layout but you have to adapt to what is being played. So far the AI doesn't put up a big fight when using 1 or 2 AI players, but becomes more challenging with 3-4 AI players. From my experience though a human will still win most of the time, but some games are close and exciting. So the game is really infinitely replayable, but like any boardgame you might start to get a little tired of it if you play it too much. The DLCs add new maps and some rule changes to if you like the base game you could eventually move on to the DLC.

Just to expand on rob's point - as a board game there is still a large element of luck involved. I've found that the games that I lost to the A.I. (and I usually play with 4-5 players) are mostly due to drawing lousy route cards.

I went looking on steam, and I see that there are three DLC's. One for Europe, one for Switzerland, and one for a USA 1910 variant. Are these worth the price?

Also, I went to the publisher's site, and there are a TON of board game variants. Are all of these, (asia, india, etc.) going to make their way into the PC version?

When I bought it the European map was included as a freebie, but I haven't learned the rule changes that go with it yet.  As for plans to convert other DoW games.......you would have to ask them.
