And Medieval TW 1.  I'm surprised they could get Shogun 1 and not Medieval 1.

Well, I suppose it's time to finally pick up Shogun 2, even if I don't play it for another year. Pretty hard to argue about paying $10 for the main game and the campagin DLC.

I think I'll pass on the blood pack. Geez, is everything going to be a DLC soon? Next thing you know, we'll be downloading the "weapons" DLC because the main game doesn't come with any included.

This is the kind of stuff the 'DLC Doomers' were warning you about.   Hopefully it never reaches something like "Full Sound pack DLC" or some such.

I ended up buying the Empire & Napoleon: Total War Game of the Year Edition for $8.99, which includes all their DLC if I'm not mistaken. I have the retail versions of all the older Total War games and since SecuROM is on the GamersGate versions of those, there wouldn't be much in the way of advantages in picking them up.

I passed up Shogun 2 figuring I'll get a package deal on it later on that will include all the present and future DLC.

Yes, for Empire anyway.  I hope the mod's bugs have been fixed up lately, as my previous attempt at DarthMod on it ended in unfortunate computer lock-up.

I've since switched to using The Rights of Man (TROM) for ETW, although I resorted to just playing more Napoleon since it's vanilla version has less issues.

The original MTW does not get included in most "Complete" collections because it doesn't like most modern video cards.  Oddly, the original Shogun does not have this problem (or at the very least, less so).

I disagree.

After Medieval 1, none of the TW games had blood and except Shogun2, blood was not added in a DLC or expansion. So, it is obviously not the case of CA removing a feature from release version to sell it later. The reason for not adding blood is probably for getting better rating from ESRB, PEGI etc.  The blood DLC adds a feature that would not be part of the game anyway. Whether it is worth its price is arguable, but having the option to buy it, is better than having no such option.

I'm pretty sure the issue taken with such a DLC is that it's something which could arguably have been added in a patch.  Especially since their fans had been asking for it as a Game Option for a long long time.

I suppose having to pay for it separately is better than nothing, although modders have added such stuff in the past (for free) so the value is also debateable.

I don't think they could have added the blood with a patch, as that would have added the blood to everyone, which may not fit its initial violence rating. It would be similar to what happened with the infamous Hot Coffee mod of San Andreas. Even in its current form, the DLC is not available in Germany and some other countries.
