Wow -- i thought they had only recently started beta testing (!?!).  Fantastic news.

Will Out of Eight do a review?

Fun read, thanks for posting. It looks like you kicked off the counterstroke early. I think historically the Germans waited a few days then struck back, mainly from the south.

Brilliant AAR as usual, Spelk.  I'm curious to see how the AI responds for Turn 2.  My one complaint about DC Warsaw to Paris was the rather gun-shy Allied AI.  It would maneuver a lot, flank, fall back -- but seldom actually attack you, beyond arty shelling.  Even on the setting where you give the AI the most time (i.e. 'hardest' AI).

There are almost no other games out there that put me in the "first day buy" camp, but this one.  Absolutely superb game.

I bought Advanced Tactics 2 way back in 2007 but never really got into it because of the terrible tutorial and poor (non-existent?) opponent's turn replays.  Have those two things been improved upon in the new game?  Are there smaller, bite-sized scenarios that newbies can use to get used to the game?

There is a turn replay step by step or battle by battle. that replay was also part of DC1 and i believe also in Advanced Tactics.

there are several linked small scenario's, small campaigns and two big campaign scenario's.

and there is also a tutorial and a helpful community on the forum.

Hi Canuck,

A resounding yes to all of those along with many other improvements.

Is this a stand alone game or addon to the original?  If stand alone, will the changes in the new game carry over (a patch?) to the first? I hope so, I like the original....great game.

My understanding is there will be a retrograde patch for the original but it will be after the release of DC:CB which is a stand-alone game.

Turn 3 on the day of release.. it takes me a while to get these together, I should have known I couldn't knock out all the turns necessary before the game was released... still, it does lay it out, moment by moment, turn by turn. So could be used as a primer for newbies. Maybe.

Kind of surprised there hasn't been many posts about this, since it just came out. Anyone else playing it? I am for a review.

Nope. Waiting for your review!

I have been keeping my wallet in my pocket for a while now, but this looks rather good. My big concern on it is whether scenarios are too big, with too much moving hundreds of units.  Just a personal thing (as I am a lightweight) as some I guess love the monster route. Anyway, looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I'm gonna buy it tonight or tomorrow. Vic makes winners, I have no doubts about this game.

They are

There are two smaller scenarios but no medium-sized ones where you get a couple of armies in one corner of the map. Maybe people will solve that problem with the editor.

I took a video of the game which is encoding right now and I'll upload it tomorrow morning and link to it here. I'm deep in Uranus at the moment.

The prior Decisive Campaigns had too many units for me in most of the scenarios / campaign. I'm an operational lightweight. Didn't seem like a bad game for those who don't mind moving many units but my eyes start to glaze over.

I just start at one end of the map and slowly make my way to the other.

It is the "slowly" that bothers me.
