Review time!

To each his own, of course, but the final 'grade' doesn't seem to square with the contents of the review, which overall seem quite positive and suggest a game that is better than a "C+" if indeed that's what 6/8 is meant to reflect.

These numbers and letters are all pretty ridiculous and meaningless.  This isn't a math class, this is a game.  The important thing to remember that a 6/8 is essentially a "buy it if you like the genre" which is a pretty meaningful statement.  Unfortunately that doesn't translate well with things like Metacritic or our own numerical expectations.  I still feel a bit burned by AWII (not because it was a bad game but because I never really got into it) so I'm going to load that one up again and if I can get over the hump finally I'll buy the new one and if not I'll just write it off.  Of course if Matrix were to release a demo then I wouldn't be forced to put the game's fate in the hands of a 5 year old predecessor.

@Canuck

The review & his YouTube presentation mentioned as negatives the map terrain graphics, the tutorial & the lack of scenarios.

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The map works fine for me & it can be modded.

The tutorial is fine also. Just exactly the info you need to get you started. After the tutorial you can go right to one of the small scenarios.

As far as lack of scenarios Vic has already created an extra one & is showing people how to create their own. Besides I cannot imagine more content not coming down the pike for this game.

6/8 was disappointing to me but the reviewer gets to rate based on his impression. I appreciated the review just as I appreciate the game. There will be other reviews & I have found that a series of reviews gives a better idea.

This is a very solid title & is being improved as we speak. I certainly have no regrets about buying it & I have some minor issues of my own. I enjoyed

C:WtP a great deal & look forward to much play with the new one. Hex & turn-based gaming doesn't come any better imltho.

It's a recommended game if you like wargames, which I assume most everyone here does

I didn't feel that DCCB has the approachability due to the massive scale of most of the scenarios required for the more general appeal that warrants a 7/8 score.

That, and the Magic 8-Ball said: "Concentrate and ask again".

I played Voronezh as the Russians for starters.  It was pretty instructive.  On a front that narrow with

6-7 Tank Corps, the Russians can put up a pretty solid defense as long as they  avoid getting cut off

and they keep counter-attacking to threaten the Panzer Spearheads indirectly.

The Russians lost 26,000 infantry and 300 guns

and lots of tanks.  the Germans lost 16,000 infantry, 50 guns and 200 medium tanks

Pretty brutal.  Of course in reality, the Germans sliced through to Voronezh before the Russians committed any

Tank Corps.

I played against the easy AI since I wanted to see how the forces actually perform without any modifications.
