Hi, just in case anyone has missed the announcement, we're currently beta testing WWI Breakthrough which is an expansion to last year's Strategic Command WWI game.

This expansion will feature 20 campaigns, including the Siege of Kut, German East Africa, the Russian Civil War, and quite a lot more!

WWI Breakthrough will also introduce a deployment phase, where you can choose where to position some of your forces before the fighting begins.

More details here:

I had made a monster sized Russian Civil War mod for Strategic Command WWII and quite frankly, though I prided myself for it's OOB and historical accuracy, the gameplay was rather bad as the AI took forever to conclude a turn ( Not the game engines fault. I simply bit off more than I could chew by making the map so damn big, from Poland to Siberia, Murmansk to Baku and had the units at brigade and regimental levels, so there were way too many units on the map!). I'll definitely get this package so I can see the RCW done right!

Have you tried Revolution Under Siege from AGEOD (shameless plug yes)...

Do not misunderstand, I have RuS and love it...when I stated "the RCW done right" I was refering to the SC game engine and the Frankenstein mess that I created.....

JPFalcon, I remember your Russian Civil War mod, and did play it.

You deserve kudos for all the work you put into that mod, and I know I wasn't the only one who loved the look of it.

The good news is that the game engine has come on a long way since then, due to Hubert's work on it, and the AI turns are much, much quicker than they were in the past. Plus we now have Armored Trains which really are essential to getting the feel of this war right.

Thanks Bill for the kind words...I had researched well over 60 historical "mascot" names for the different Armored Trains that were present during the RCW and used them for the units in my mod. If the trains are not named in your SC WWI expansion, I can provide a list. I'm sure I have the file on my old pc....I need to find my account info for my JP Wagner account over at Battlefront. I have not been there in awhile and I know I'll want to chime in once the expansion comes out.....

We've just released two sets of screenshots which give a taste of the action to come:

Any idea when we might expect a release?  Really looking forward to this.

Also, don't know if it's possible, but it would be nice to be able to see what scenario all the screenshots are from since they seem to be pretty random.  I guessed the RCW one because of the train, aside from that and the E.African campaign, most were just guessing.

We're deep into best testing at the moment, so hopefully within the next few months.

It's going well, but with 20 campaigns it's certainly keeping us busy. In a good way of course!

Good point about the screenshots and although many are self explanatory, here's a quick guide to some of them:

  • 1-3 and 33-35 are from East Africa
  • 4-6 are the First Balkan War
  • 7-10 are the Ludendorff Offensive
  • 14-15 and 36-38 are the Russian Civil War
  • 23-25 are from the Brusilov Offensive
  • 39-40 are from the Siege of Kut

JP!

What a pleasant surprise to find you over here at Wargamer.   Bill alerted me to the activity here so I thought I’d drop in.

I do remember you RSC SC 2 game – I still have it on my computer.

You will be blown away with what we have done with RCW for SC.  The game is extremely fluid and there are so many surprises.  The testers have been impressed with the dynamics of fighting on so many fronts at one time.

Thanks for sharing your train list.

Yes, the game engine has improved, facilitating what we have done.

Find that JPWagner account and come back over for a post or two.

Damn.. they even have a scenario for the Brusilov Offensive.

So... uhhh.. how much will the whole original + expansion pack be on special for?

Bill, I only currently have open office on my pc so I did not want to type out everything and send it to you and find that you might have a problem with opening it. So I have everything listed below for your convenience to copy and paste. I should point out that when researching my RCW mod, the OSPREY series on the RCW was a great help. The two main sources are ARMORED UNITS OF THE RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR (Red Army) (White and Allied)  Osprey New Vanguard Nos. 83 & 95

Since I'm not certain how many HQ's you will have attached to each side, I'll simply include all of the info I have and then you can cull from it what you wish.

WHITE and ALLIED

Ataman Seminov had the following trains operating in the Siberian Regions:

Semenovets, Ataman, Grozny, Cossack, Zabailkalets, Otvakhny, Master, Horseman, Stanichink, Valiant, Swift, Just.

Armored Trains located at Archangel:

Admiral Kolchak, Admiral Nepenin

Trains used by Northwestern Army:

Admiral Essen, Pskovite, Talabchanin.

Trains used by Deniken's Volunteer Army:

General Alexiev, General Kornilov, Forward for Fatherland, Officer, United Russia, Battery of Distant Battle, Dmitry Don, Knight

Krasnov's Don Cossack Railway Brigades consisted of:

Ataman Kaledin, Gundorovets, Prince Suvorov, Razdorets, Mityakinets, Ilya Mouromets, Partisan Colonel Chernetsov, Kazak Zemlyanukhin, General Baklanov, Don Bayan, Ermak, Ivan Krug, Ataman Orlov, Ataman Nazarov, Buzuluk, Khoper

The Armed Forces of South Russia also included the following:

Victorious Thunder, Invincible, Steppe, Saint George Bringer of Victory,Three Musketeers, Thunderstorm, Terets, To Moscow, Falcon, Mstislav the Bold, Ivan Kalita

Red Army

The Red Army numbered most of their trains with many duplications (there were at least a half dozen No.1 designations) so they had quite a large pool of names so I left out the ones that were simply named for Bolshevik leaders or cities:

Destroyer, Soviet Russia, Varangian, Victory or Death, Siberian, Power to the Soviets, Petrograd Avenger, Karl Marx, Stenka Razin, Liberator, Bolshevik, Storm, 3rd International, Destruction of the Counter Revolution, Soviet Ukraine, Death to the Directory, Death to the Whites, Fighter for Freedom, Grom, Red Hurricane, In Honor of Nevsky, All Power to the Soviets, Dawn, Avenger, Partisan, Red Banner, Red Peasant, Spartak, Republican, Baltic Sailor, Lightening, Death to Wrangel, Death to Parasites, Death to Deniken, Death to the Enemies, Proletarian.

Bill, this is not enough I can supply more,  and Robert024, if you still have my mod on your pc, you can open up the editor and check the list to see if there are any interesting names that I missed. I had some bad pc troubles over the past year so I lost alot of my files and games. Well good luck with your testing. I cannot wait to try your RCW scenario....

Fortunately every Windows computer comes with Notepad ( a text editor) and Wordpad ( a cut down word processor).

When I get a game serial number I copy it into Notepad as I expect text editors to be around for the next 50 years at least.

You could have copied your document into Wordpad and then sent it.

There is no fee for this info.
