With so many games based on WWII or ZOMBIES (god I hate zombies now) and just general crap out there I thought of some games that need a remake badly.

1. A new better Railroad Tycoon game

2. A new better Transport Tycoon game

3. A new Freelancer II with a non-static economy

4. A new WINGS II game for the PC (I had mine on Amiga 500)

5. A boardgame conversion of dealer McDope played this back in the 70's a lot

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/223514/dealer-mcdope-the-straight-dope-review

6. A new War of the Lance game with better graphics and a hands on tactical battle game included.

7. A 3D view way to play Civilization where you live and do things like a 3D shooter but still do research and get advances. SPORE was almost it but pretty stupid in execution and too simple.

8. Ghost Masters II a game I couldn't really get enough of but it has no random quests/mission generator and so you sort of know what to do everytime.

that's all I can think of right now. You guys got any ideas?

Would love Railroad Tycoon to come back; thought all the follow ups from original were not as good as the original and too simplified.

I would love to see a new Railroad Tycoon game come out. Since my favorite of that series was Railroad Tycoon II, I'd like to see that *with tunnels!* and the graphics of Railroads!

Yes! An updated Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Absolutely!

I played War of the Lance for countless hours back in the day and agree with you 100%.

How about a new SimCity that doesn't require water or sewer lines? I'd like that.

An updated Wing Commander: Privateer and Elite come to mind also.

My #1 choice is Imperialism. A good Imperialism III would be my dream game right now.

Conquest of the New World would be an interesting remake. So would Project Space Station. I spent hours on the Commodore 64 playing that.

Steel Panthers, using new graphics and gameplay. Brilliant game.

Age of Rifles, for the same reasons as above.

A new generation of Warcraft, back to the spirit of WC2, never really got into WC3.

I was thinking SSI's Kampgruppe but Steel Panthers would also do nicely. I'd vote for Might & Magic but Skyrim is almost that except for party being replaced by just one or two. I'd love to see SSI's old Battles of Napoleon"s excellent AI re-done with the beautiful graphics of the Total War series and a competent strategic campaign game thrown in.

Age of Rifles, definitely.

(I'm perfectly fine with Shrapnel's current versions of Steel Panthers (SPWW2 and SPMBT)).

Very much YES!

That's all I had to add since Shadowrun is already in the process of being remade.

Imperialism III would be great.  Also, The Warp Factor, so basically Star Fleet Battles on the computer.

I swear that we must be long lost gaming brothers.  That list is awesome.  I would also add Xwing and Tie Fighter Series, Steel Panthers, Age of Rifles, and V4V.

I'm also fine with current versions of WINSPMBT and WINSPWW2, of course it wouldn't be bad at all to see a "modern version".

Games i'd really like to see  "modern" remakes of are:

- A serious modern version of the original "Sid Meier's Pirates!";

- Tie Fighter vs X Wing;

- Covert Action;

- Star Wars Rebellion;

- Darklands;

- Cutthroats: Terror on the High Seas;

- Rockstar (text game);

- Buzz Aldrin's Race to Space;

- Fighting Steel;

- Destroyer Command;

- Aces of the Pacific & Aces over Europe;

- Nobunaga's Ambition & Romance of the Three Kingdom Series (KOEI);

- Silent Hunter I;

- Countdown (Access Software);

- Budokan;

+1 to a Steel Panthers modern version.  Maybe from the guys who brought us Panzer Corps?

An honest-to-goodness port of Star Fleet Battles.  Starfleet Command 1 - 3 was "okay" but it wasn't true SFB.

An honest-to-goodness port of Battletech.  Not MechWarrior or any other sort of "flight sim on the ground."  Just Battletech.

Seconded with TOAW III. TOAW would need an updated HUD and map interface, and fully compatible scenarios between all versions.

Age of Rifles 2 is long overdue.

MASTER OF MAGIC!!!!!

Just implement the game design exactly with a smooth UI running on a modern Windows OS. Instant hit! Just do nice 2D graphics or 3D graphics locked with 3/4 down view (Like Civ V).

I would like to see Master of Orion 2 remade the same way.

Otherwise, I see lots of great suggestions in the thread.

Oh and someone said X-COM is being re-made. That has been tried a lot, but each failed to capture the soul of the original.

I think an often over-looked part of X-COM's success was its clever use of lore. X-COM seemlessly integrated real UFO lore and conjecture into the plot. Learing about the aliens and their plans was exciting. Every single knock-off used extremely far-fetched plots and lore that just didn't pack the sizzle of the original's plot and lore.

If I ever become rich I am going to fund the development of an X-COM remake with the same strategic layer and a tactical layer played out in a Ghost Recon style tactical shooter where you seemlessly direct a few small teams. And the tactical layer won't be some kiddy shooter, it will be realistic (at least at first

).
