Letterman revolutionized medical care for wounded soldiers in the Army of the Potomac, and I guess many of his reforms are still used by the military today. Its a fascinating article and a big eye opener for me. I'm a big Civil War buff, but I never heard of this great guy.

Very interesting. He essentially expanded, and made more efficient, the logicits of battlefield medical treatment.
