Topic: Should the Joe Paterno statue at Penn State be torn down?
After Jerry Sandusky was found guilty of 45 out of 48 counts of of Child Sex Abuse, and now the evidence that the late Joe Paterno had knowledge of this without contacting the police, people want the Paterno statue torn down.
What do you think?
I think the guys a crook for not contacting the authorities about this child sex abuse. But on the otherhand, he was a college football legend; there is no denying that. Doesn't the statue represent his achievements in college football? It wasn't a statue celebrating him as a person. I'm completely undecided.

Certainly having knowledge of this type of crime and not reporting to authorities is a crime; that's the law. There may be a distinction about knowledge; whether firsthand or hearsay, I don't know but if the latest report stands up I don't think the University will even want to keep the statue. The Penn State community may be too personally invested in the Paterno legacy to actually demand the statue be removed but I think overall public opinion would dictate otherwise. There's also the perception within the larger sports community. That peer pressure too will cause the statue to be removed. We'll see.
On another note, I'm baffled over Paterno's 2002 reaction if he had prior knowledge of previous events. Strange.
