I often miss the days of boardgaming where you could pick up games on interesting "off the beaten" track battles.

In the 20th century  what would be your top three choice of battles outside of WWII ?

1.  WWI

2. Cold War (inc. Vietnam & Korea if this is historic only?  Is this cheating extras in? )

3. Arab-Israeli Wars  (could be included as part of #2 )

I suppose that would be the ones I'd currently be on the lookout for.  Nothing too unsual.

Where's your list DB?

1.  Arab-Israeli Wars

2.  Modern

3.  Korean War

Squad Battles covers a lot of these.

1st Indochina War (Dien Bien Phu), 2nd Indochina War (Vietnam, Tour of Duty), Post 9/11 Iraq & Afghanistan (Modern Wars), Soviet-Afghan War, Falkands, Spanish Civil War, Winter War [is this outside WW2], Korean War...

There are mods that give you African Bush Wars, Arab-Israeli Wars, Hypothetical Cold War etc.

This is the reason why I like Squad Battles a lot.

Oh don't forget WinSPMBT where you can simulate almost any of these and make up your own confrontations.

Well I wasnt so much reffering to wars in general so much as to individual battles. I think there are just particular situations that have just caught my interest whether it be the  tactical situation or the weapons or whatever.

So among the less obscure actions

I have read a couple of books on Lettow-Vorbeck  and find that history and some of those engagements facinating so first I would probably go for

1. the battle of Tanga

Next I would go for a proper representation of the battle of

2. La Drang - both xray and albany -

have always been fascinated by that engagement and the situation

My last would have to be a bespoke representation of

3.Dien Bein Phu

So what I mean is a proper full game of the subject - not something cobbled together as a best fit representation in something like TOAW. So kind of operational / tactical - but a games that represents the conflict in its entirety and its own individual nuances - "Chrome" as it used to be called - perhaps still is. Something you could do with baord wargames with a few rules paragraphs but with computers is somewhat more diffcult to bespoke.

1. Battle of Tannenberg during WWI. I've always been fascinated by how the Germans pulled this off.

2. Battle of Spion Kop during the 2nd Anglo-Boer War. Brits vs. Boers, 'nuff said.

3. Battle of Mukden during the Russo-Japanese War. The Great powers had a chance to learn about how WWI was going to be fought, had they studied the battle of Mukden more closely.
