The Wargamer is hosting a community article submission contest to help celebrate the bicentennial of the Battle of Borodino in 1812. Matrix/Slitherine will be sponsoring this event. Your mission will be to recreate the battle either on the PC platform or using miniatures, using only Matrix/Slitherine products. Written articles, videos or a combination of the two are welcome.
The products that can be used must be either:
John Tiller's Battlegroun Napoleonic Wars (including Battleground 6: Napoleon in Russia)
or
Another Matrix/Slitherine game that can represent the Battle of Borodino on a tactical level
or
A modded version or custom scenario using a Matrix/Slitherine PC game
or
Field of Glory - Napoleonic or Field of Glory - Triumph of Nations (for miniatures)
Prize
There will be one winner. The winner will receive a game voucher for one Matrix Games/Slitherine game, and will also have their article published on our front page during our Battle of Borodino series of articles--around September 7th.
Submission Guidelines
Essentially, this will be an AAR. Participants can choose to either play as the French (and allies) or the Russians. The whole battle doesn't need to be reenacted historically, it can also be played-out ahistorically. Also, the whole battle doesn't need to be represented either, just a small skirmish or maneuvre of the battle is also acceptable.
The deadline for submissions will be Friday, August 31st 10pm PST. All submissions must be sent to editor@wargamer.com
Video submissions will be uploaded via Dropbox--arrangements for doing so will be discussed after participant notifies myself by contacting me using the above email.
Written articles must be at least 1,500 words in length, and accompanied by at least 15 images (.jpg or .jpeg format).
Video submissions must be at least 20 minutes long (total length). Videos must also meet the requirements of acceptable Youtube video upload formats found here: http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55744
If a participant wishes to submit a combination of written and video, then only one of the above length requirements must be met (either written length or video length).
Article submissions that do not meet the above guidelines will not be accepted.
Picking the Winner
Several factors will be considered when determining who will be the winner of the contest, they include: focus on the subject matter, connection with our audience (tactics, strategy, OOB's, military history information), entertainment factor, and creativity. As long as the minimum requirements are met, length will not be a determining factor.
***Wargamer Staff cannot participate in this contest.***
***All participant info and submissions will be kept confidential. However, the winner's article submission will be made public when published on the frontpage. The winner will have the option to use their real name with their article if they so choose.***
