Does it have 10 minute turn times and a campaign that nobody can ever finish.

Pricing Model is very unfair to Brits €19.99, £19.99, $19.99

I have high hopes for this game. I just hope it is relatively stable and bug-free at release and I don't need to wait many months for patches.

Considering this isn't trying to model the industrial revolution and the scramble for Africa simultaneously, I bet it will run quite smoothly.

Yummy.  I love AGEOD games even Pride o'Nations.

I love their pricing strategy even if it is so unfair to the UK today. (Stifled giggles)

Well enough feeling sorry for the old country.  Chin up and all that.

I would feel more sorry about your "food"......Cleopatra mmmm.

cheers

Can you play any other faction besides Rome?

How's the AI?

Are there naval battles?

When are you going to preview/review it Jag?

Is it easier to build up and break down groups of units now?

Does the AI play to win or just delay the human from it?

I don't see why there wouldn't be naval battles considering that's been in previous iterations of the game engine.

I'd also expect to be able to play some of the 'barbarian' factions, too.  Hard to imagine an AGE game with only one playable side.  Their AI is usually quite passable for single-player, depending on the faction it plays (and that faction's strategic situation) since, from what I've gathered, it's not as adept at active defense as it is at offense (RoP being the example here).  I think it's more challenging than many, though.

The full article on the link says you can play as Pompey, Caesar, or Mithridates for the big campaign so at least one non-Roman group.  It also includes the Marian/Sullan wars, which I can't remember ever seeing in a game before.  Can't wait to get back to the old AGE engine.  PON/VGN was just pushing that poor engine past it's limits I think.  Going back to the grand operational level is where the engine shines.

The designer behind the project knows well the AGE engine and history, there is now certainly some debug tools for data files, so the

game should be highly playable from the start.

Now waiting to read the Sunray review.

The $20 one is the full game.  The others are the extra Indie Support donation prices that I see being popular with the indie alphas and betas these days.

I see everyone is starting to try some Kickstarter model even when the game is already produced....I also wonder if they hook alot of people with those $100 and $250 buys? All I know is that this is one fish that got away....

I've got all the other AGE engine games but £1=€1=$1 really puts me off buying as I can see no justifiable reason that just because I am a UK customer I should have to pay 25% to 50% more than someone in France or the US respectivly to buy the game.

£1=€1=$1  is just a rip off.

I've seen some of those indies get the big donations.

I know it's difficult to believe sometimes, bet there are people out there with too much money on their hands.   Also.. remember those people who complain about games being too cheap, on gaming forums?  I guess this gives them the extra option of paying more.

Heck, if I could even remotely afford it, I would go with the big money options.  I am literally willing to shovel money at companies that consistantly make games I like, and I haven't gotten anywhere near the kind of hours/dollars ratio with any other company as I have AGEOD.  And they've hit my two sweet spots with the Civil War and Roman Republic.  I would send them my debit card if there was anything on there for them to take.

Edited to add the word "consistantly"  I mean, Paradox makes CK2, which I adore, but I think a lot of the rest of their game library is dreck.  Still, CK2 has made up for a lot of missteps in my mind.  But that's a one-off, AGEOD has made 5, soon to be 6, games that I can pick up and play at any time and enjoy.

So, who caved and went for the 250.00?

I'm probably going to get this one, maybe the 19.99 level. Hopefully AGEOD has a demo, but their track record has been excellent with demos.

2800 regions! Hundreds (thousands???) of leaders. Way too much for me to deal with. I would like to but will pass this up. I know my limitations. It has taken a while.

I think AGEOD games are briliant but based on my gaming habbits and preferences, I can never say that I played an AEGOD title to death.  It's usualy just playing a few turns, admiring the art and detail, and then completly forgetting about them.

Also, I didn't like how Pride of Nations panned out.  For me the engine is best for operational campaigning instead of nation building.  I guess this Roman game is military-focused so it should be good.  Wars in America still the best for me.
