Status : Online | I have numerous SPI titles, along with numerous other titles bearing time honoured labels.
Where women spouses cats kids etc are concerned though, it's simple. Provide them a house, provide them with a house that has one measely room set aside for your things. Demonstrate you have given them the entire rest of the house. Don't take any back talk if they won't let you have the one lousy room out of the entire frigging house.
It's that simple.
I have my hobby room. My things don't really exist outside of my hobby room. I never tell them how to arrange their own things.
Any woman, pet, kid whatever that can't abide by a deal like that should be "corrected".

I have some SPI titles, and no I don't have a family.

Status : Online | To Les,
I like your style but unfortunately in this scenario neither my offensive nor my defensive positions are very strong since it is I who have the entire house filled with my "collectables" and have left them with little space.
To Squad Leader,
The games do seem to love me unselfishly and in a house full of females they are definitely more quite.
To Both,
Did you all prefer the larger or more managable board games?

Status : Online | I prefer the "good" wargames actually hehe.
So that means Longest Day 5 feet by 5 feet playing area.
ASL, as small as 9 inches by 12 inches although more commonly 2-3 mapboards is common.
Standard wargame is like 2-4 mapboards which is like 2 feet by 4 feet.
A3R is a bit larger than the original 4 map panel version and a paper mapsheet.
World In Flames, depends on what you are using.
War in the Pacific, hmm dang big especially with all the charts.
I being a woodworker though, have never had trouble making custom table surfaces.
The trick is to perfect mobility. If the game is "big" you play on a dining table, but store elsewhere ie you safe haven at game session conclusion.
I don't hate pets, just don't have a desire to look after something more responsible than my family hehe. So no animals here other than a hamster.

Well there are a few things women have over wargames....

Status : Online | My brother-in-law and I once set up War in the Pacific on a regulation size ping pong table and found we had to use an additional card table and several tv trays to accomodate all the charts trays etc.
I also remember setting up a game of Objective Moscow on the living room floor in front of the Christmas tree (pre kids and pets). This resulted in one of the first "gaming conversations" my wife and I had.

Depends on how many are playing. If just two, then I prefer games like Panzergruppe Guderian, Cobra or perhaps Drive on Stalingrad. If there's at least four, then the War in Europe is a must!

Dang those charts are a chore.

Status : Online | I never got to "really" play War in Europe. I finished a couple of the smaller scenarios but couldn't get anyone to commit to the long haul of the full game.
My only full game of War in the Pacific must have lasted 8 months. Time well spent.
