Anybody out there play the demo or beta this game? I'd be interested to hear opinions, as it'd be on my list to pick-up... so long as it doesn't suck.

Ive tried the single player demo....kinda. I just jumped in and started doing stuff without bothering with the tutorial. needless to say I didnt accomplish much. I was suprised that the camera controls werent like Homeworlds (imho the best ever) there also seems to be a lot of GUI in the way of the screen but Im sure these can be turned off. I also didnt like the C&C type base building going on. the main thing I didnt like was the very slow framerate I was getting. I was using a 1600X1200 32bit resolution and it was dog slow. this might seem a bit extreme but thats the res that Homeworld runs best at with no lag at all. but still, on my new rig this game should be running much smoother. can anyone tell me if this is a openGL game?

I might just buy because it is Warhammer, but that logic has failed me in the past. Oh how cares, it is Warhammer. Though nothing beats the actual game, this just allows me to insert pretty pictures of my Imperial Gaurd slaughtering those stupid Elders. Ah, that makes me feel like such a nerd, oh well... GDS, I believe the API is D3D. It ran slow on my machine during the beta- which is not unusal for a beta. I suspect things could be coded tighter, but these days getting it out the door seems to be first priority. Centurion, I'd say wait for the first reviews and the first patch.

Hi! From lurking over at their forums I agree waiting is probably best here. Seems there were a lot of issues concerning video performance. For example, last I saw they were saying that the game should do well with 512k of ram, but it appears a min of aroud 1G is what is needed. Ray (alias Lava)

It runs fine on my system which is by no means top of the line. 1.7 Athlon 512mb ram geforce FX5500 256mb Audigy live sound card Shadows and the lighting in the game chew up resources, with those off i can run it at high settings with no problems. During beta i ran with high settings in 6 player games and never encountered any noticable slowdown.

I played this last night, and I thought it was pretty fun (not as good as Warcraft 3, but imo better than C & C or Pretorians). I ran the game on Highest everything with 1600 x 1200 - 32, and I had no video performance issues at all. 2.8c 512 RAM nVidia 5700 Ultra I think it is always good policy to wait for reviews before forking over $40-50 dollars. If you don't already know, www.gamerankings.com is a pretty good place to find reviews for games.
