AL TAQADDUM, IRAQ (14 April 2007) – 2nd Lt. Nicole Penn, a Chicago native and a platoon commander with Engineer Support Company, 8th Engineer Support Battalion, gears up for a convoy out to the Amariyah-Ferris region of Iraq on 18 April. In the largest engineering operation since 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward) arrived in January, the 8th Engineer Support Battalion began construction of a number of combat outposts in the Amariyah-Ferris region of Al Anbar Province.

UDAIRI RANGE, KUWAIT (1 May 2007) - Sgt. Lacy M. Laubacher, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-264 (Reinforced), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, monitors flight-line traffic as an AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter cruises by Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Is it just me or do both of those last two photos look touched-up?  I like the blue highlights, but it seems better suited to Unreal Tournament than real camo.  And the girl in green - cute, but the light green stripe from her neck to chin to eye seems too even.
 
Still, nice photos, Brant.  Better than the one dedicated to StarFury.  Yeah, I know, great personality and all that...

For drivers in the military, who are stopped for traffic violations by a military policewoman on a 900 cc Harley Davidson, annoyance for being pulled over soon turns to amazement. Sergeant Chani Yosef, age 20 and a resident of Bet Gamil, recently completed her military service in the military police corp. Despite the stigma attached to the corps, Chani feels no regrets in serving where she did. “I was happy to be assigned to the military police, there are so many positions in that unit, its not all about filing reports. I made the decision to give it my best in so that one day the unit would turn into the most requested unit in the IDF.”
Upon completion of the police course, Chani was assigned to the central traffic supervision unit. The unit, established in 1980, is responsible for supervising traffic of all military vehicles and enforcing all traffic laws in the military. The unit is under command of the military police. The unit consists of mobile fleets, a number of undercover vehicles, a number of mopeds and of course the soldiers who drive them. Unique to this unit is the seven heavy motorcycles driven by the soldiers. The soldiers who complete the police course with excellence are assigned to the central traffic supervision unit, and those who serve with excellence in the unit are given the privilege of being drivers.
After proving herself capable in the unit, Chani was assigned to the prestigious drivers course, and was successful in obtaining her military motorcycle license and a civilian motorcycle license for bikes up to 500 cc’s. “From the moment I arrived in my unit I knew I wanted to join the drivers course and I did all I could in order to be accepted,” recalls Chani. Amongst the 15 cadets sent to the course, Chani was the lone female. Not only did Chani complete the course with excellence, but she passed her test on the first try and obtained her license in only seven and a half weeks.
In addition to enforcing traffic laws, the corps’ motorcyclists have the distinct privilege of accompanying military processions of senior ranking member who come to tour the IDF. Chani has already accompanied the Chief of Staff and generals during their military processions, as well as the President of Israel, the Prime Minister, Defense Minister and US delegates.
How did people react to a female motorcyclists speeding by on a Harley? Depends on who you ask. “My family was very supportive”, explains Chani. “I became obsessed with riding and actually bought my self a bike to ride when I was on break from the army. After hearing about my experience all my friends want to join that unit as well. When I stop at the light, and the other riders on bikes surrounding me see that I am a girl and I am riding such a heavy bike they give me a bit of respect.”

My Contribution...she works a couple cubes down from me. She was a photographer in the Marines in the 70's, and was covering some ranges and was asked to help use up some ammo. She says it was the most fun she ever had in the Marines.

Stevens is a combat medic with the 211th Aviation Group. She deployed to Afghanistan in 2004. “Loved every minute of it,” she says. “There’s been some hard times, but it has taught me a lot. You’ve got to grow and learn from everything. Taking care of soldiers whenever they got sick. We did get rocket attacked often. Took care of shrapnel wounds and did a lot of IVs."

Well... I guess she won't give the standard "World Peace" answer, given her background. 

She would be hard to compete against:

Judge: "So contestant 1, what have you been doing to prepare for the pageant?"

Girl 1: "I have been modeling, and working at an animal clinic."

Judge: "And you Jill Stevens?"
