Some Questions About The Squad Battles Series - Tuesday, November 03, 2009 9:21 PM ( #1 )
I played both East Front and West Front from Talonsoft back in the late 90's.  Looking at the description and screen shots of some the games in The Squad Battles series reminds me of these two games.  Specifically, When Eagles Strike looks a lot like West Front.  Also, When Eagles Strike appears to be a different scale then The Proud and the Few and Pacific War.  Anyway, some questions.

(1)  Are these games similar to East Front and West Front?

(2)  Is Pacific War an improvement over The Proud and the Few?

(3)  What are some of the scenarios for Pacific War?

Any info, opinions, and comments would be appreciated.

Hopefully you can find your answer here:

For a list of scenarios:

I've played both series and found them to be quite different in a number of ways.  I'm not an expert on this stuff so you may get different opinions from others.   But Squad Battles has a smaller scale, i.e. tanks and other vehicles represent just one unit, not a grouping of 4 or 5, leaders have separate counters, you can fire or withhold fire of different weapons within a squad, it is a much more small scale tactical game.  I hope I'm making sense.  I much prefer Squad Battles over the East Front - West Front games.

Pacific War & PatF cover different topics, just within the same theater - so not a case of "improving upon".

The series is in the middle of getting updates right now, so every game will have the same underlying engine as the most recent release - and full compatibility with the most recent OS changes - all for free.

The Squad Battles engine is very detailed and offers a wide breadth of battlefields to be fought on. The people who have taken the time to learn the system really enjoy it. But, as mentioned, it is tactical, not operational.

Thanks.  The link to the Game Squad site requires that I register.  I am already registered at too many sites so I declined.  In regards to Pacific War, are there scenarios for Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and Tarawa.  My interest lies in the island invasions.  I know a couple of these are in The Proud and the Few.

McHugh - if you are still interested in looking at that scenario list link from Gamesquad I went and uploaded it to Scenario Design Center.

Squad Battles :Pacific War scenario list and other notes

or

http://hist-sdc.com/beh...nes/pw_Scenario_List.doc if you prefer to see the address....

Ultimately I will incorporate that information into a page on that particular title (I also will do The Few and the Proud) eventually. ( Will see if they have a similar file with the game and try to do the same ).  If you can't open the file, let me know and I will try a different format.

Hope this helps.
