Fleet Command and Supremacy at Sea

I saw a couple of NWS games that have caught my eye, and I wanted to hear some opinions about them. One is Fleet Command. I seem to remember this game came out a few years ago (or am I confusing it with something else?), but it seems NWS are still supporting it (or acquired the licence and continued to develop it). Any views on it? The other is Supremacy at Sea. This seemed to have received a fairly lukewarm response on this board, but it looks like a bold game to me. I know there is a patch due out soon (or is it out already?), but are the perceived problems with it patchable? I know they also have a tactical naval game out that seems to be getting rave reviews, but I'm not interested in tactical naval games unfortunately. Any thoughts appreciated.

I predicted that SAS would become one of the best simulations ever. Combining everything that was good about War in the Pacific yet playable. The stated goal was to let your second in command (the computer) do the heavy lifting if you needed it to. No more having your invasion of Leyte fail because you didn't follow some obscure rule that in real life would be taken care of by your staff. You should be able to play the Pacific war on any level you want with as much detail as your brain can handle when it is finally finished. The concept was good the execution was not. Hopefully the patch will bring forth it's vast potential. I am a huge supporter but it really doesn't work right now. Cross your fingers that the patch will do the job.

Fleet Command was re-released with XP updates along with two other classics, Sub Command and 688(i). I think it is a fine game and has been expanded by some enterprising folks here... http://forums.navalwarfare.net/forumdisplay.php?f=9 A lot of folks think of FC as a "Harpoon Lite". I'm not sure I agree completely. Not sure on SAS.

Thanks for the replies. Klkern, it looks like the 19.2 update for FC is stalled until next year. Any idea how it plays at the moment? Also, since you mentioned Harpoon, which is the best version of it these days?: I've become confused by the different games bearing that name. Hairog, I think the new SAS patch is out soon isn't it? I'll certainly pick this game up if the patch gets a good response here.

Quite frankly I had incredibly high hope for SAS when it first came out and from what I can gather the developer has a great reputation for getting it right. So again I have high hopes. As I said the concept is really exciting now we just need the implementation.

Makris, remember that SaS is made by NWS main-man Chris Dean and crew so, you would do well to go over there and shoot a few comments and questions to him. I have never seen Chris not be accommodating, even to the point that, if you were severely disappointed he would try to fix the problem for you. I have SaS, but haven't put tons of time into it. I'm very very curious about Warship Combat: Navies at War, which is getting some rave comments despite its quirky UI. SoM

My favorite Harpoon is the Commander's Edition put out by Matrix. I'm not sure it's the "best". That's a very subjective term. CE fits my brain wiring and play style. I like that it's a full blown Windows app as opposed to a ported DOS application. I have not played the new Harpoon ANW.

To hairog.. thanks. I think v1.1 pretty much nails down the bulk of the player requests to date. So far the feedback has been quite positive.
