Re:Shooting in Orlando - Saturday, November 07, 2009 8:56 AM ( #21 )

I got 49 posts now. And I come here for game news and answers to game questions I have.

So why are you even bothering to participate in discussions currently, considering that you're not interested in them?

So your 4000 posts mean you're part of the war gamer staff? Or that they give a damn what you say?  Big deal..  And bye the way...I never called anyone a name or asked them to leave.

No, it means that I've been participating in debates since I joined. I don't come here because I'm hoping people give a damn about what I say, I come to the general forums to debate.

You never called anyone a name you say? Considering that you were, by your own account, not really interested in discussions in this part of the forum, you came in and started posting pretty hostile posts. Considering, in turn, that you didn't really participate much in any debates with the people you are judging, for better and for worse, it's all the more surprising.

The Fort Hood thread was started by Jarhead.  How do you know what it was about, or what he had to say?

Because I can read? The thread didn't disappear off the charts, it was only locked. Jarhead has his own way of stating things which make his point(s) almost impossible to miss.

You don't do well when you can't open a book and act superior do you?

Let's see, you're not calling anybody names, but insulting them is fine? Considering that you're the one judging people, not me, I'm not the one acting superior. And of course, although people sometimes seem to think that I want to act superior, I don't jump into threads looking for a fight.

Oh, and before you ask me to put your mental abilities to the test and in the case you're the same critter as the one on the SSG forum (which, considering your name and your spelling, you have to be): I'm Abwehr there, welcome to the Wargamer's discussion forums, and you gave up on your last PBEM against me, but we can try again soon.

Any kind of mass shooting, like the one in Orlando, can be labeled as terror, or a terrorist act.
Just remember kids, when you need something wholesome and innocent like Sesame Street twisted into something sick and perverted - I'm just a phone call away.

Yes Star, but with those one liners, I would say I have more word count!

I hate to say this, and I understand the need, but I think that one shooting resulted from  the other shooting. Why? Because forensic psychologists have repeatedly stated that "sensationalized" news stories regarding mass shootings spur other people "on the edge" to take that leap. I realize the need to be informed regarding Fort Hood, but the constant media barrage - particularly focused on the identity of the shooter at Fort Hood - probably pushed this new guy to "attention seek" and validated what he had brewing in his mind.

It's a sick sort of thought, that people see the bad guys in news stories and assume that the media is glorifying them - so they want to be like them and respond like a "copy-cat." But it does happen and the psychology behind it is sound.

The less said by the national media about this new shooting - outside of notifying the people and communities that need to know - and particularly the less said about the new shooter (i.e. no need for his life story, background, picture all over the media) the better off we will be.

Yeah, if you count Star's Almighty Military Babes he is the only living saint on these boards.

Did anyone hear about the Seattle killing and "terrorist" attack? I just saw some news about this, happened around Halloween?

Ugh... this is why I don't watch televised news.

Here is the link Staggerwing. Bizarrely... the perp's name is Christopher Montfort. He killed a cop and probably set fire to several police cars. It is being called terrorism, and I think it's pretty clearly a good case of it.

Grrrrr

EDIT: Dead cop stories bring out something ugly and vindictive in my own nature. Too close to home...
