Free Games at The Wargamer

The Wargamer is proud to offer this collection of completely free downloadable or web-based games for your PC. These titles are

  • Battalia: Created by Dr. Peter Turcan, this game uses an advanced game system that embodies his earlier work putting the wargamer back on to the battlefield to lead his virtual army through a 3D world in near real-time.  Be sure to check out our preview by Chris Wilson to learn more about the title.
  • Black Hawk Down: Mog'93: Created by Ezra Sidran, this web-based javascript game offers players the chance to recreate the situation faced by Task Force Ranger on October 3, 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia in a turn-based strategy world.
  • Eleveron: Join either the forces of good or evil, choose between 12 different fantasy races. Pick one of 6 unique faiths all linked to the various races. Each race offers different opportunities to rise to the top. Fight alongside your friends, against your enemies, bringing glory and fame to your kingdom. Find heroes who join your cause and lead your armies!
  • Steel Panthers: Main Battle Tank: This stand-alone modification by the SPCamo Group offers an derivative game based on one of the best tank simulations ever created, Steel Beasts.  Similar to Steel Panthers: World War II (below), the add-on offers the nearly complete set of armies involved in World War II: 70 different countries with nearly every unit represented.
  • Steel Panthers: WW2: Authored by the famed SPCamo Group, this tactical level World War II war game uses a highly refined version of Steel Panthers 2 - Modern Battles based on the original SP2 game engine code by SSI/Grigsby/Brors.
  • Ardennes Offensive 2: In 1997 SSI published a game from Strategic Studies Group (SSG) called Decisive Battles of WWII: The Ardennes Offensive. Even though it was acclaimed, the title didn't generate enough feedback for SSI to support the authors' intention of continuing the series. Prompted and helped by a handful of enthusiasts and colleagues, Roger Keating of SSG decided to upgrade the game in his spare time, his effort resulting in the release of version 2.0 in late 1999. It incorporated the quite significant changes that had been saved for sequel titles and was further improved (most notably introducing the play-by-e-mail turn replay feature) to version 2.3.0 of early 2000.  These versions are all free, and more information on this Award for Excellence winner is available in our review.
  • WarOnline: The world's first graphical, online, web-based strategy game, WarOnline is managed by Alex Fielder, and is fully database-driven.   This web-based game features command and conquer elements built around the classic resource gathering motif.  The simulation is semi-realtime in that structures you build, land you acquire, army movements and even direct combat all happen immediately, but things like resource/population growth and defensive tower attacks only take place several times a day at timed intervals.
  • Strike Force: Hunter: A quick and dirty game of chasing bad guys, Strike Force: Hunter casts you in a dual role. You are trying to capture your opponent's terrorists while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate your own into his city. Coming compliments of BayonetGames, this 4-page PDF download comes with 1 map, 1 page of markers, and 2 pages of rules.
  • Chain of Command: Chain of Command is a real-time, multiplayer tactical wargame set in Normandy in World War 2, pitting American troops against German troops. The player commands four soldiers in various short actions, and will most likely find himself part of a larger group or team of other players, some of whom may be his commander, and some of whom may be (eventually) his subordinates.
  • People's Tactics: Devious turn-based strategy explodes on to the scene with People's Tactics... A wargame in the spirit of Empire or Panzer General, but more than both of those titles. Combine furious hex-based mayhem, research and production trees, the ability to command land, air and sea forces and up to 10 players over hot-seat or PBEM and you have the most serious test of your strategic acumen ever!
  • Unification Wars: Unification Wars is a free Massively Online Game with over 1,000,000 members! You are the leader of an empire, recruit and level up your minister(s) to assist you to expand your economy, military and power by diplomatic or military means. Enslave all intelligent life to unify them all!
