Introduction
When we interviewed Big Huge Games founder Brian Reynolds
about Rise of Nations at E3, he explained to us that the
"C" word (Civilization, on which he was a former
producer) was "banned in our studio." Although
it carries a number of significant similarities to Sid Meier's
Civilization franchise, Rise of Nations is a real-time strategy
title, unlike the turn-based Civilization games.
In Rise of Nations, players will be able to develop their
"nation" of choice from the Stone Ages through the
modern era, and do so in a remarkably short time frame (under an
hour, Microsoft says). Players will expand their nations
through city-building, conquest, commerce and even
diplomacy. Although players may start off with spears
and slingshots, by the time they reach the modern era, weapons
such as the stealth bomber will be available.

of Rise of Nations from our E3 2002 Convention Coverage.
