Alexander the Great.  Hannibal Barca.   Julius Caesar.  The greatest generals of antiquity come to life in the Great Battles series by Interactive Magic.  Fill the sandles of Darius as he attempts a last stand commanding the Persians against Alexander's juggernaut at Gaugamela.  Deal a crushing blow to end the Second Punic War as the legendary Scipio Africanus against Hannibal at Zama.  Try your hand at managing Pompey's superior army against the cunning Julius Caesar in the Roman civil war.  If your taste runs along more obscure conflicts, an editor allows the creation of battles from the Peloponnesian War through the early Roman Empire.

The purpose of this site is three fold.  The first is to provide information about a series of games on a much neglected genre, ancient warfare.  The second is to provide a focus for a community of others that share a common interest in these games as well as the ancient world at large.  The third is to educate, both ourselves and others, in the fascinating history of this era.

Follow the Review link and you will find reviews of all three games in the series as well as the "Collector's Edition," which includes all three games and a bonus editor.  While Alexander, Hannibal, and Caesar may be found separately in the bargain bins of your local software store, the Collector's Edition is highly recommended for anyone with more than a passing interest in the subject matter.  In addition to a few extra battles, the Collector's Edition contains up-to-date versions of all three games, plus the editor, which includes a program shell needed to play user created battles.

Check out the Tourney link for information pertaining to our growing online community of "Great Battles" afficiandos.  Here you can join the latest tournament, view results from past tournaments, and see how you rate as opposed to others in our player's ladder.    Also available through this link is information on players seeking opponents, as well as inpromptu events, such as multiplayer melees.  Our growing community includes players from around the world, and I can honestly say you won't find a more mature, friendly group of gamers anywhere else.

Bored with fine selection of scenarios included with the games?  Visit our Scenario Archive and expand your horizons.  The editor included with the Collector's Edition is required to play any user created scenario.  Each scenario posted here includes a history of the battle as well as designers notes.

Still can't get enough of the ancient world?  Our Related Information page will lead you to information shared by our community and links to other sites containing information on the "Great Battles" series as well as ancient history in general.
