Ubisoft is now looking for beta testers for Heroes of Might & Magic V (E3 2005 preview), the latest game in the long-running RPG series. According to this detailed forum posting, the publisher wants a varied base of users to assist its development efforts in a closed beta test. Interested gamers will need to fill out an application detailing their playing style and background, system specifications, and other relevant information. Ubisoft will then select 1,000 testers to aid in their debugging process for two weeks beginning sometime in September. To sign up for the testing, visit this web site (players will need an Ubi online account).
The license to the Might & Magic games was acquired by Ubisoft two years ago from 3DO, and the French publisher has since announced three products associated with that license. Heroes of Might & Magic V combines the best of the RPG series' lineage and puts it into a 3D world. In it, players direct a small party of heroes as they fight through six campaigns, as well as manage cities and recruit armies. Play can either follow the classic Heroes format of turn-based combat, or be played in Ubisoft's new format, a dynamic mode which speeds up the gameplay into pseudo real-time.
Expect Heroes of Might & Magic V to be released sometime in 2006.
