We neglected to mention on Friday the announcement that FEAR (or F.E.A.R., if you prefer) had gone gold and was preparing for an October 18th release across the globe. The movie-styled first-person shooter is the latest creation of Monolith Studios, the team behind the No One Lives Forever series and TRON 2.0. FEAR is described as an atmospheric thriller presented in first-person format: as a member of an elite military unit, the player is called on to investigate some mysterious and bloody deaths in an urban high-rise. The game's storyline mimics many paranormal horror movies in its dark presentation.
In addition to the "gone gold" announcement, Vivendi also announced it planned to release a new FEAR multiplayer demo in late September. A single player demo was already released (see
FilePlanet to download it), but now players will be able to try out the game's well-publicized "slow-mo" (think The Matrix) gameplay in a multiplayer deathmatch arena.
FEAR will be released in both a standard, $50 game package, and a special "Director's Cut" edition which will sell for a small premium and contain a few extras. For more information on the game, we recommend visiting the
official web site.
