Stardock's head honcho speaks on the continued development of his company's space strategy game.
Brad Wardell, the founder and president of Stardock, is the subject of a three-part interview published on the gaming web site Apolyton. Stardock's Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords (preview) is the subject of the interview in which Wardell discusses the publishing methods which the company will employ to bring GalCiv2 to the market. Specifically, Wardell discusses the challenges of self-publishing this turn-based 4X space strategy game in a market typically dominated by large retail players:
"By the end of 2004, Stardock had steadily grown in size and resources. The company decided that from this point on it would be best to publish its games on its own when it made sense. Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords will be a good test-case for self-publishing. In early 2005, it had signed on with TTI -- yes, The Corporate Machine`s publisher -- to distribute the game to retail. Publishing a game involves completely different resources than developing."
