The Witcher Screenshots

E3 NEWS posted on 17 MAY 2006 by Sean Drummy

Bioware shows off their unique role playing title at E3 this year.

CDProjekt has released some screenshots detailing their unique role playing game The Witcher. What's particularly distinct about The Witcher is its comprehensive and well-constructed plot which is expected to provide an added layer of fun on top of CDProjekt's boasts of excellent gameplay. Immersed in a vivid but harsh fantasy world the player assumes the role of the white-haired witcher Geralt, a renowned slayer of monsters for hire who, while trying to regain his lost memory, will unwillingly become involved in a world-shaking power struggle.

The roots of the plot are actually based on a bestselling fantasy series by Andrzej Sapkowski which focuses on no abstract divisions between ‘good’ and ‘evil’. Coupled with excellent visual effects for combat, fantastic spells, and unique but vaguely recognizable technology, The Witcher is expected to bring good novel writing and videogaming together in an all-new light.

Some general features:

  • Three plotlines that interweave to form a seductive intrigue.
  • Multi-layered storyline: interrogation on Witcher’s mutation formulas, an epic conflict between powers,
and a personal struggle of regaining one’s own identity.
  • Player is able to develop 250 different special abilities while playing.
  • Three different endings depending on the choices and decisions made throughout the game.
  • Over two thousand pages of absorbing dialogues (the quantity might change as the development progresses).
  • Non-linear quests, depending on choices and decisions. Each of them may be resolved differently, and each
    resolution leads to different consequences.
  • The primary storyline consists of over the hundred quests, and will take at least 30 hours to complete.
  • Additional sub-quests give the player an opportunity of gaining over 50 additional gameplay hours.
