Guns of August is a grand strategic-level World War I wargame being developed by longtime designer Frank Hunter. The game has been in development for some time, vying for Hunter's attention among a number of other assignments. Matrix Games released several days ago the first screenshots from Guns of August, giving interested gamers their first look at this ambitious new title. The screenshots, which have been reproduced below, show the game in its current beta state. Frank Hunter and his Adanac Command Systems are best known for their work on a number of Napoleonic era wargames, including Campaigns on the Danube and The American Civil War. We first revealed Guns of August as the unnamed "World War I (1914 - 1918)" back in December 2003. While few new details are available, the game is apparently a turn-based strategic-level wargame set amidst the Great War.
