Steel Panthers - About SP

What is Steel Panthers?
What is OOB/MOB/KOB? What is LBM? What is SHP?
.gif) n September 1995, Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI) published what is
perhaps war game legend Gary Grigsby's finest work yet: Steel Panthers. In my
opinion, this is the game to set the standard for all player interfaces, levels of
fun, and especially replay value in war and strategy games to come.
With an
emphasis on armor, Steel Panthers includes over 200 tank and aircraft models, over
100 weapon systems, and a large variety of specialized infantry such as heavy and
anti-tank infantry, Pioneers, Volksgrenadiers, and even airborne troops. Individual units
and formations from a large selection of both major and minor nations fighting in World
War II allows players to recreate almost any battle imaginable in the Pacific, in Western
Europe, on the Eastern Front, or in desert climates like Northern Africa.
This game
enjoys tremendous replay value with its inclusion of premade scenarios, linked campaigns,
a random battle generator, and a powerful and user-friendly scenario editor. Perhaps more
than any other game, Steel Panthers has made scenario authors out of people who
formerly had only dreamed of creating their own battles in other games.
Although Steel
Panthers ships with over 60 premade scenarios and six historical, linked campaigns, to
date, there are over 1,000 additional custom scenarios available from both commercial
sources or for free. Commercial scenarios are offered at reasonable cost from a variety of
sources, including the wonderful SSI Steel
Panthers Campaign Disks. Sources for free scenarios abound as well, although we
believe the searchable, fully indexed Custom Scenario Archives
found on The Wargamer to be the best source for such free creations. (We may be
biased, of course. ;-)
Currently, Steel
Panthers has been officially patched to version 1.2 and now includes password
protection for play by email (PBEM), a very competent AI, and one of the best war gaming
experiences around. The game's interface is simply superb, allowing even the casual war or
strategy gamer to quickly play and feel comfortable with the controls of this gaming gem.
If you've worn out your Panzer General (and seek more realism) or are looking for
something a little lighter fare than Panthers in the Shadows or Tigers on the Prowl, Steel
Panthers may very well be the game that hardly leaves your CD Rom drive. In fact, I've
played it so much, I even wore out a copy.
What you are
about to find is hopefully the best and most comprehensive collection of information,
add-ons, utilities, and custom scenarios available for Steel Panthers. We (and our
contributing authors) have worked hard at collecting this material over the past two years
and hope you enjoy it.

But I still don't understand what Steel Panthers is?
|
 |
 |
It's PC turn-based strategic wargame. Steel Panthers 1 covers World War 2
(1939-1945), Steel Panthers 2: Modern Battles covers worlds conflicts from 1950-1999 (Year
2000 bug? , Steel Panthers 3: Brigade Commands joins both SP (WW2 and
Modern) but on larger scale.
OOB in SP1, MOB in SP2, KOB in SP3, are files which contains information's
about weapons and units for nations in the game, they can be easily modified to players
wishes for greater realism. You can find many already done on our site. Just unzip them
and copy them to your \sp directory.
LBM are pictures or units you see in the game. You can create new ones by using
Paint Shop Pro 5.1. Many OOB/MOB/KOB comes with LBM pictures, just copy the pictures to
your \sp\lbm directory (if you don't have that directory, just create it).
SHP are graphics in the game. You can create new ones by using Fred's Chalnda
SHP-Editor. Many OOB/MOB/KOB comes with SHP graphics, just copy the SHP files to your
\sp\shp directory (if you don't have that directory, just create it).
