Matrix Games & Slitherine release schedule - what to expect from the next few months16 Oct 2020 1
Slitherine & Matrix Games held a live video conference last night as part of their annual ‘Home of Wargamers’ event, where they released a lot of information. The highlight, as we’ve already covered, was the announcement of a new standalone Field of Glory 2 game set during the medieval period, but there was plenty more to read about as well.
Barring any delays or new announcements between now and the end of the year, we now have a pretty clear picture as to what the digital wargames company is planning to release right through to January 2021.
Let’s take it from the top:
First and foremost, there’s a new Command LIVE scenario incoming. In fact, it’s already out, as Sahel Slugfest released yesterday. This coincides with a massive community scenario update that was also released today.
Next on the schedule is the Fantasy General II DLC, Empire Aflame. We’ve already reported about this, but it will be dropping next week on October 21st. We’ve got Leon on the case for a review, which we’re hoping to have ready in time for launch.
Warhammer 40,000 Gladius - Relics of War is not something we’ve talked about a lot here, as it was historically one we left for our sister website Strategy Gamer to cover. Now that Strategy Gamer has moved on to greener pastures, might as well drop the news here that the next DLC will be dropping on November 12th.
We don’t know what it will be - but it’ll bring a new race to the Civilization-meets-40K I’m still convinced no one actually needs (even though it’s pretty alright). I’m trying to think of who hasn’t had a DLC pack yet… Eldari maybe?
ICBM, which was recently made free as part of the Autumn Steam Festival, has had its release date confirmed for November 19th. We’ll make sure we get a review ready in time.
This next one isn’t a ‘new’ release, but Shadow Empire has proven to be quite popular since it launched earlier this year. The “boundless and flexible” 4X wargame is coming to Steam on December 3rd. For those of you that already own it, you’ll be entitled to a free steam key that you can use to redeem the game there, without having to repurchase.
Last, but certainly not least - there’s going to be another Panzer Corps 2 DLC! Panzer Corps 2 - Axis Operations: 1940 will, unsurprisingly, cover the events of WW2 from the German perspective during the iconic 1940’s, from the Blitzkrieg campaign against France to the various operations in Scandinavia and the Balkans.
It will, of course, also feature its own Operation Sealion scenario because that long-dead horse hasn’t quite been beaten enough yet. It will be released on December 10th.
That was everything relevant to come out of the Home of Wargamers event this year. Of course, all of the above is subject to change and there may be new announcements still to come, but there’s a lot to be excited about already.
