Matrix & GOG Are Bringing Back Close Combat

Matrix Games has announced that they’ve partnered with to release five iconic Close Combat titles via the well-known DRM-free games platform.


Classic titles Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far, Close Combat III: The Russian Front & Close Combat IV: Battle of the Bulge are joined by newer titles Panthers in the Fog & Gateway to Caen. This is reported to only be the “first step”, with the entire series eventually making its way to GoG.

The original Close Combat game was developed by Atomic Games and published by Microsoft in 1996. Since then, the series has seen a whopping seventeen releases, with over 5 million copies sold.

Close Combat II A Bridge Too Far

This isn’t the only reason that 2018 may be an exciting time for Close Combat fans. As part of the announcement, Matrix confirmed that their new entry – The Bloody First – will be releasing in 2018. This latest addition has been built in a new engine, with 3D graphics and the core gameplay being brought up to modern standards.

The GOG releases have all been discounted for a limited time, so jump on them while you can.
