Slitherine’s rather excellent early modern era wargamer, Pike and Shot, is getting a new feature – and it’s rather a biggie. The latest version brings a campaign system to the otherwise tactical battle game, so instead of being stand alone battles with no impact on the progress of the war, your successes and failures can have strategic meaning.

Ageod are often the forgotten part of the Slitherine/Matrix/Ageod empire, which is rather unfair as they produce some excellent grand strategy games. Sometimes great riches can be found in the most inexpensive of wrappers, and so it is with Tercio to Salvo, the very first expansion module to Matrix/Slitherine’s impressive PC game, Pike and Shot. That said, it’s now time for BLUF – Bottom Line Up Front – as some disclosures are appropriate here. It's time to break out the ritual cutlery again since the bloodthirsty game developers at Paradox Interactive have released a whole new expansion for their critically acclaimed title Europa Universalis IV that's sure to steal a heart or two. “El Dorado,” as the DLC's name suggests, is an expansion that greatly bolsters the experience and detail of the indigenous nations of North and South America as well as increasing the level of interaction for colonial powers looking to plunder the silver and gold rich hills of the New World. Building upon their previous expansions that significantly changed the entire dynamic of colonialization in EUIV through their Colonial Nation mechanic, Paradox has now given the native counterparts something of a unique experience as well.

Slitherine have released an iPad version of the game, so doughty pikemen, musketeers and cuirassiers (plus a whole host of assorted sidekicks) can play the game almost anywhere. I’m not going to give a full in depth review of the game as it is a straight port to the tablet platform and Bill Gray has covered the game in full; what I’ll do it look at how well the game performs on the iPad. For reference I’ve used an iPad 4 for this review.
