Terror from the Deep [Desert] - New DLC Fleet for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Inbound

There's a stirring in the sand, and it isn't a cult Kevin Bacon film. Hinted at and correctly plumbed by the forum wayfarers over at BBI, the deep desert-dwelling Khaaneph are set to rendezvous on April 26th.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is a glittering treasure, signaling none of that wistful science-fiction melancholia was lost in the transition from Krasnikov tubes to caterpillar tracks, and in turn another excuse to pimp the Wargamer review. While many perhaps felt Deserts of Kharak didn't capitalize on its rich backstory -- particularly when drifting back to the original game's peerless manual-cum-codex -- with its first batch of DLC, I've sunk many an hour into skirmishing and comp-stomping with friends at the Soban helm. As such, the small details feel a lot larger when fully explored, and given the enigmatic atmosphere surrounding the oncoming Khaaneph fleet, the addition is welcome.

With scant details on the actual bibs and bobs of the upcoming fleet itself, eager folk might be wise to deep dive in either the Deserts of Kharak Expedition Guide or a wonderfully-prepared PDF transcript to eek out what's in store. The exploits of intrepid Coalition explorer Jonas Baer points to some interesting wrinkles in the Khaaneph fleet of salvaged and stolen vehicles; these include a base carrier with a penchant for missilery and AoE speed increase, a base runner with a taste for smoking and suicide drone technology.

Given the seven-odd imperial credit price-point of the Soban expansion, one would assume the Khaaneph can be had for the same price. We'll keep an eye on the shimmering horizon and let you know how it all goes.

Stay hydrated.
