Wargamer Weekly Alpha Phwoar

By Joe Robinson 07 Feb 2020 0

I’ve been given code for that War Room - Afghanistan game we wrote about last year. It’s still very early days yet so don’t expect much (if anything) any time soon, but it’ll be interesting to dive into the game to see how they’re treating the subject matter.

Unless something interesting crops up as I poke around, we’ll probably leave it till it’s further along in development, then I’ll have one of the guys take a look at it in more depth and we’ll do some preview coverage.

Meanwhile, in the world of wargames...

Panzer Corps 2 Pre-Orders Now Open

  • The First two DLCS when they are released

In addition to that, anyone pre-ordering this edition will be able to jump into the game and give it a try for up to 48 hours, between February 18th and February 20th. Panzer Corps 2 is due to launch on March 19th, 2020.

Six Months of Axis & Allies 1942

Following on from the latest patch released earlier this week (bringing the total number so far to eight), Beamdog have recapped the initial six months of their early access run of Axis & Allies 1942 Online.

From bugs squashed (over 1,000) to visual and mechanical changes, the post reads as much as a learning experience for the developers as it does the game itself. Beamdog aren't known for making war games, either digitally or in physical mode, and while I imagine there are plenty of fans amongst the team (why do it, otherwise?) that’s not really the same as knowing what needs to happen in order to authentically recreate a war game. Still, it’s good to see how much effort Beamdog are putting into this, and we reckon it’s going to come out of the other side a really decent digital adaptation.

Rule the Waves 2 Patch 1.16 (x3)

Rule the Waves 2 has just received another patch. Version 1.16 comes with a modest list of bug fixes, but is mainly about revising the order of events for the strategic turn to give players more flexibility when wars break out. You can check out the new order on the change-log page. Note that there have been two additional hotfixes released as well to snag some additional bugs.

Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnought Alpha 4

Game Labs Great War era naval war game has just received its fourth major Alpha version. The change log is pretty extensive, but some of the main additions include:

  • New 3D Models for the Bismark and the HMS Hood.
  • Improved Damage visuals
  • New secondary gun features
  • New Naval Academy Missions
  • Control & Interface tweaks

This game seems to be shaping along nicely, so we’ll keep an eye on it and perhaps give it more coverage later in the year. In the meantime, you can read Bill’s write-up of Alpha 3 if you’re interested in some initial impressions.

Osprey Games Sale

Osprey Games are running a sale on all of their stuff which will run until the end of the February, but they’ve been doing some articles highlighting specific deals or groups of deals that might be worth looking at.

Their latest promotion looks at ten wargame rulesets you can get for under £15, and features a wide range of miniature rules that cover everything from Fantasy Wargaming, to Gangsters, and more. You could check it out if you get a chance. Sadly, Undaunted: Normandy isn’t on sale, but then it’s only £30 to begin with so not as expensive as most boxed wargames these days.

In other wargame news…

That's all we've got time for this week - enjoy your weekend and happy wargaming!
