Warhammer 40K: Armageddon expands with Golgotha

10 Mar 2016 4

Not having a background in the Warhammer universe means that I universally dread getting press releases for Warhammer games. It's not the games' fault, but the fact that there is so much backstory that I'm unaware of, each release feels like trying to translate ancient runes. That brings us to this month's ancient runes which mention something called Golgotha. Golgotha happens to be the name of the latest expansion for 2015's much beloved Warhammer 40K: Armageddon. It's also the last expansion for the title, but more on that later.

Golgotha refers to a planet where Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka is building his new unstoppable WAAAGH! (I totally cut and pasted that sentence) There's more:

The Ork forces were ultimately defeated in the 2nd War for Armageddon, but amongst the billions of dead Orks one body was not to be found, that of Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka.

Few in the Imperium heeded the warnings of Commissar Yarrick that he must be hunted down, foolishly believing that Thraka was just another Xeno who would surely be relegated to history. For Thraka though, the whole invasion of Armageddon was merely a way to test the waters – an experiment to learn how the Imperium would react against a massive invasion.

Now he is regrouping and building a new WAAAGH! on the isolated world of Golgotha. However, the venerable Yarrick has tracked him down and plans to launch a surprise strike on the world with the express aim of destroying Thraka at any cost!

This expansion includes new units from the Mordian Iron Guard as well as the chance to command Yarrick and his Baneblade super heavy tank, The Fortress of Arrogance. The expansion includes ten new missions which run the gamut of trying to establish a foothold on the Ork world, all the way to confronting Thraka himself.

As I mentioned earlier, this is the final expansion for Armageddon and as a celebration all previous DLC is on sale. You can pick up any of the previous four expansions (Vulcan's Wrath, Angels of Death, Glory of Macragge, and Ork Hunters) for only $3 each.

Warhammer 40K: Armageddon can be picked up for PC on Steam for $40 or on iPad for $20 with the Golgotha expansion available for an extra $5.
