Two Discworld board games are on the way, a classic Knizia remake and a Sam Vimes murder simulator

The publisher of recent TTRPG, Terry Pratchett's Discworld: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork, is back with two licensed board games and a fresh RPG supplement.

2026 is shaping up to be a good year for Discworld readers who also love a good board game. Game publisher Modiphius, fresh off the heels of its 2025 Discworld TTRPG, has announced a slew of licensed tabletop products for next year. This includes a witch-y expansion for said tabletop RPG, as well as two new board games set on Terry Pratchett's mighty Disc.

Well, technically it's only one board game. Discworld: Readers Digested is actually a licensed re-skin of Blue Moon City, a 2006 strategy game by the highly acclaimed designer Reiner Knizia. Modiphius' official website promises the game will be "reimagined in a Discworld theme with brand-new content".

The entirely fresh title is Kill Sam Vimes, a chaotic-sounding card game where you'll play as Guild assassins trying to terminate that tricky Duke of Ankh. Kill Sam Vimes is expected to release in Q3 2026, while Readers Digested will begin crowdfunding via Gamefound in "early 2026".

Speaking of crowdfunding, late 2026 will bring the first expansion for Discworld: Adventures in Ankh-Morpork to Kickstarter. This supplement allows players of the tabletop RPG to explore beyond the walls of Ankh-Morpork. Heading out to Lancre, Uberwald, and the Chalk, things are getting significantly more supernatural.

Last year, the RPG's original Kickstarter raised $3.2 million (£2.4 million). Fulfillment is currently underway, with backers having received digital copies of the core rules while physical versions are still expected. Modiphius has also confirmed that retail copies will be available in Q2 of 2026. As one of those original backers, I've already taken the TTRPG for a test spin - though I sadly wasn't impressed with the system.

That sour first impression means I'm not quite as fired up about the expansion (however much I love Lancer). Still, the board games sound promising. Reiner Knizia is famed for having designed some of history's best board games. Take, for example, Tigris and Euphrates, which announced its own reprint just the other day.
