Restless is an open world board game with a focus on animal companions, exploring nature, dice based combat, and big boss battles.

Restless Designs, an Austria-based board game company, has just launched a crowdfunding campaign for their debut game. They promise a collaborative open world RPG experience where 1-4 players will team up to save the realm of Everion. The game is entitled Restless, in a bit of a Chicken and Egg situation it's not clear whether they've named the game after their company, or their company after the game. What is clear, though, is that the game's crowdfunding campaign has been as restless as its name would imply, as it surpassed it's funding goals within two hours.

Restless is far from alone as an open world RPG board game. In fact, earlier this week, Wargamer covered Threshold, an open world game that aims to provide the experience of an MMO in a box.

Restless aims to set itself apart by focusing on nature. Many of the playable species are animated plants, and during play, you can recruit animal companions: from sea turtles to chameleons to porcupines.

Campaigns of Restless occur over three acts, each of which lasts one session of play, and culminates in a boss battle. Combat is resolved by rolling a variety of brightly colored ten-sided dice, alongside using cards that you've added to your character board over the course of gameplay.

Three backing tiers are available. The core pledge for $75 (£57) will provide a copy of the game, the "gameplay all-in tier" for $103 (£78)will also include the "Adventures in the Dark" expansion that adds a day/night system, an affliction system, and new playable species and bosses. Finally, the $133 (£101.14) deluxe pledge will include the base game and the expansion, alongside a selection of premium wooden gameplay components.

The campaign has already surpassed its initial funding goal of $29,000 (£22,000), having raised $76,800 (£59,400) since it went live on the 11th November.
