Board game about taxing the rich review bombed both ways

The board game geek page for the Norwegian card game Tax the Rich has become split as masses of positive and negative reviews pile up.

The board game tax the rich is currently receiving a massive influx of both positive and negative reviews on Board Game Geek.

Tax the Rich is a trick-taking board game published by Alion Games, who are also known for Sparks, and Gardlings.  It's due to release in several European countries later this month, but no US publication date has currently been announced. The Board Game Geek page for this taxation-based trick-taker has become deeply divided, with massive numbers of both positive and negative reviews pouring in.

Of the 191 reviews that have, at the time of this article's publication, been left on Tax the Rich's Board Game Geek page, 52 of them are perfect tens. Contrastingly, 31 people have given Tax the Rich 1/10. In other words, 42% of all of the reviews for this game give it either the maximum or the minimum score. All of this back and forth has left the game with an overall rating of 6.4/10. The game's theme of wealth redistribution lies at the center of this divide, with many reviews either praising or condemning Tax the Rich's politics.

Tax the Rich has one central twist that separates it from other titles in its genre. Initially, like most trick-takers, a high numbered card beats one with a lower value. If a player's hand contains only cards with values from 1-3 though, they are able to declare a "class revolution" and invert this power structure. Now, cards that were previously weak (all of which depict workers) become top-tier threats, while those that were once strong (which depict the wealthy) have had their power reigned in. Whatever else might be said about Tax the Rich, it certainly demonstrates its central concept through its mechanics.
