<r>Bill:<br/> <br/> Nice list - especially "The Admiral" !<br/> <br/> When I started sailing on a square rigged ship the captain recommended Harland's book to the crew. It is an excellent reference. Just to add several suggestions for US history:<br/> <br/> Ian Toll's "Six Frigates" is an excellent ...

This reminds me of the old AH game: Kingmaker. We used to use that game as a campaign setting for table top miniatures.

Actually the other way around - I pasted from here to TMP! ;)

PS - Oak & Iron is 17th century and while the focus is not specifically on the A-D wars they certainly have the models for it!

<t>Rather than echo issues brought up on TMP, as an age of sail grognard, I have been waiting for play through videos on YT at a minimum. Suffice it to say that some of what I have seen is troubling for those looking for granularity in combat. For those gamers who don't know the difference between a...

Nice write up. I am most interested in pre-dreadnoughts and dreadnoughts though, so I will wait for "Ultimate Admiral Dreadnought". I think having played miniatures games onboard the USS Olympia predisposes me to the early ships!! No pesky aircraft for me, ok maybe WWI era!

<t>Bill did you see the "new" style mats appearing at Historicon? The mats with tuffs of flock? Also someone is selling pre-made teddy bear fur mats? Seems people are trying to go a step further than the Cigar box style mats. I can't recall the companies involved but did see that The Wargames Compan...

<t>Despite the usual TMP grumblers a spot on assessment! My only quibble would be the escalators of which the up direction seemed to be broken until Saturday night. I day tripped in and was able to park in Steinman garage just across the street even getting in at 11 am on one day! I ran a game (one ...

Re:

The battle description shows perfectly the problems I have with FOG. The winning side in an ancient battle took 30% losses. That would an unusual thing, most pre-gunpowder battles were rather one-sided in losses. If you play any FOG battle and then read an account of the battle on Wikipedia you wil...

<t>As I understand it FOGE has it's own simplified battle system in addition to an auto resolve function. <br/> <br/> Interestingly there has been a lot of grumbling from the FOG2 players about not having the battle export function available in multi-player FOGE. As a practical matter I can see why ...
