Fantasy General II Review

Thu Sep 05, 2019 10:15 am

There’s a certain danger to playing a long-awaited sequel. For some beloved properties the weight of years will make anything new developers produce inadequate.

Looks like a remake of Fantasy Wars.

I loved the original Fantasy General for its simplicity and emphasis on combat rather than strategy. The music was, as everyone knows, simply awesome.

I'm very interested in the sequel but I'm wondering if the game has been made too complicated. Also it looks like there are only two factions, which does not appeal to me.

I think I'll wait to see if the developer makes some changes, including new factions.

The Fantasy Wars series is pretty good, but I expect more from FG2.

@Andrewys I didn't think it was too complicated compared to a lot of other war games, but it is definitely a different beast from the original. Honestly the title track is nice in FGII but I'm not digging the sound effects overall. I thought I'd be bothered by the two faction thing but I feel like it worked out well for the campaign. Skirmish mode will need more variety to really shine though.
