In so many sci-fi settings, from Mass Effect to Warhammer 40k, humanity always plays the underdog. We just have this strange assumption that humanity's first contact with aliens involves said xenos invading us. Yet reality on our dirt ball of water shows that humanity sits atop the food chain, and in many ways, we are not benevolent rulers. So what happens when humanity encounters the non-human, and decides to conquer them?
That is the question Human No More seeks to answer.
Human No More is a cooperative sci-fi TTRPG where a regime known as the Human Apartheid has dominated for nearly a century. Animals have been "uplifted" into a sentient working class, androids tortured with pain sensors, alien-human hybrids enslaved for psionic pleasures, and mutants forced to work factories. As far as tabletop RPGs go, it's firmly in the grimdark territory.
But beneath all the grime and corruption, a beacon of hope shines, a beacon that threatens to topple the totalitarian oppressors. That premise alone is a refreshing, if rather cynical, take on the whole anti-authoritarian plot. It's cool to see a sci-fi setting that makes humanity the big bad empire that doesn't have to fight for that privilege.
Looking at you, Imperium of Mankind.
On a gameplay level, Human No More utilizes a D20-based RPG system called H20. What makes this stand out from other RPGs is its emphasis on tactical cooperative play, much like X-COM. Action points, flexible character progression tied to narrative, and intense firefights certainly evoke that feel. Best of all, it will be an Open License property, meaning players can hack it for their own purposes.
Also notable, despite the presence of android revolutionaries, is the team's staunch No AI policy. In the real world, the art is proudly human made, which is ironically the most pro-labor stance one can take on the matter. Speaking of which, the writers also promised the setting would be deeper than just "good vs evil." The nuances of revolution and oppression will be explored deeply and respectfully.
You can support No More Human on Kickstarter until Friday, November 14, 2025.
The Wargamer Discord accepts all-comers, even the secretly sentient androids among you. If you'd rather fight xenos scum, the Warhammer 40k Space Marines guide is a fun start.
