It’s official – The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 is coming to Amazon Prime Video! Just as the third season of Critical Role’s animated DnD epic wrapped up in late October, we got confirmation that the Vox Machina crew is definitely returning to our screens – this guide tracks our release date predictions, and all the latest season four news.

Beware! Beyond this point lie spoilers for Vox Machina season 3; if you haven’t watched it yet, you can check out our overview behind that link.

The big news now, though, is that The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 has been confirmed on Amazon Prime. Cast members revealed the Dungeons and Dragons show’s renewal in a YouTube announcement on Wednesday, October 23 (watch it below), excitedly sharing with fans that Amazon Prime Video has approved the show for a fourth full season.

Scanlan actor Sam Riegel promises “the gang will be back for more epic adventures next season”, and thanks the show’s loyal audience, adding that “we’re so thrilled, we’re so excited, we’re so grateful… we couldn’t be happier to share this news with you”.

The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 release date estimate

We estimate The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 will be released in Summer 2026, based on previous seasons’ timescales. Neither Critical Role nor Amazon has yet given any indication of a Vox Machina season 4 release date or window – but we can make an educated estimate based on the time seasons two and three took to make.

The wait between Vox Machina’s second and third seasons was about 20 months – so if the gap is similar this time, that would place the season four release window in the neighborhood of May to July 2026.

Given Season 3’s apparent huge success and quick renewal, it’s possible the Critical Role gang could get the resources to crank out S4 quicker, perhaps by Spring 2025 – but we’ve heard no indication of that so far. We’ll keep this guide updated with the latest confirmed info!

In the meantime, another Critical Role TV series has also been confirmed – The Mighty Nein, an animated series focusing on the second Critical Role campaign.

We’ve heard precious little about The Mighty Nein since its announcement in 2023, but, given the good news about Vox Machina’s renewal, we’re hoping to hear more rumblings about it soon – we’ll report the details as soon as we have them.

Vox Machina season 4 cast – who to expect

We can expect the full core Critical Role cast to return for season four – although which Vox Machina characters each cast member plays could be in for a shuffle, depending on how the plot develops.

  • Laura Bailey as Vex’ahlia ‘Vex’ Vessar.
  • Liam O’Brien as Vax’ildan ‘Vax’ Vessar.
  • Taliesin Jaffe as Percival ‘Percy’ De Rolo.
  • Ashley Johnson as Pike Trickfoot.

Vox Machina season 4 plot predictions

In the closing scenes of season 3’s 12th and final episode, we see the Vox Machina crew split up into groups, ready to head off on their own personal quests.

Scanlan and his daughter Kaylie are setting off on a planned world tour as a family; Vax means to accompany Keyleth as she returns to the Fire Ashari for her ‘Aramenté’ testing; the newly coupled Percy and Vex are heading to Whitestone with Gilmore to spend Winter’s Crest with Lady Cassandra; and it looks like Pike and Grog are sticking together after all that, with plans unknown (beyond fucking shit up, of course).

Beyond that general parting of the ways, the S3 finale gives us one major clue as to what we can expect next time around: the last few seconds show us hooded cultists in an apparent Ziggurat, chanting about sight, voice, heart, and blood – along with some distinctly summoning-esque magical lightning.

Fans of the original Critical Role campaigns already know what that means: the Whispered One, a.k.a. the copyright-safe name for Vecna, is back in the mix. We think that’s a pretty strong indication that everyone’s favorite tear-and-share archlich will be the Big Bad Evil Guy of season four.

Which Critical Role campaign will Vox Machina Season 4 be based on?

We don’t know yet for sure – but, based on the teaser for the Whispered One right at the very close of the Season 3 finale, we predict Season 4 will be based on the fifth arc of Critical Role’s first campaign: 15 full episodes that first aired between June and October of 2017.

Much loved by fans, this arc sees the Vox Machina crew attempt to stop a shadowy cult bent on reassembling and resurrecting the dread lich Vecna. The resulting quests see them travel to Elysium, a volcano at the bottom of the sea, and an undead dwarven metropolis, to name but a few destinations – before facing off in an epic final fight.

If you want to dive into the original Critical Role actual plays to get a feel for the storyline that might drive The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4, you can watch the whole arc (over 60 hours of it) on YouTube – beginning with Critical Role Episode 100 above!
