November 19, 2025: We updated this story with the official card art and details, provided by Wizards of the Coast over the weekend.
Players have been speculating about a Magic: the Gathering Monster Hunter crossover for a while now, but folks, Wizards of the Coast has now finally come through and confirmed it's a reality. A Monster Hunter Secret Lair Super Drop will be running from December 1 to December 22. Wizards has now shared the full breakdown and images of the cards, plus details of the elements of the Monster Hunter universe they represent, so let's have a look-see.
Per Wizards' announcements, the Monster Hunter MTG Secret Lair will be split into four separate drops. Top priority, for us at least, are The Monsters and The Monsters II: two drops that total nine cards, featuring a selection of the most recognizable foes from the Monster Hunter videogames' menacing menagerie.
Per Wizards' latest press release, Monsters I will include:
- Nezahal, Primal Tide - as "Lagiacrus from Monster Hunter Tri".
- Drakuseth, Maw of Flames - as "Rathalos from Monster Hunter".
- Sarulf, Realm Eater - as "Zinogre, introduced in the Japan-exclusive Monster Hunter Portable 3rd".
- Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire - as "Nergigante from Monster Hunter: World".
- Ziatora, the Incinerator - as "Fatalis, introduced in Monster Hunter".
And Monsters II adds:
- Razaketh, the Foulblooded - as "Gore Magala from Monster Hunter 4".
- Amareth, the Lustrous - as "Velkhana from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne".
- Wasitora, Nekorus Queen - as "Nargacuga from Monster Hunter Freedom Unite".
- Kalamax, the Stormsire - as "Brachydios from Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate".
The other two drops explore all the non-explicitly-Monster parts of Monster Hunter. Don't worry, they're still full of the things Monsters do, and weapons armor made from Monster bits.
The Hunt drop contains instants, sorceries, and enchantments that are supposed to represent the impact of a series of monstrously powerful attacks. Here, Wizards says we're getting:
- Blind Obedience - representing the lifedraining abilities of Malzeno.
- Snap - representing Kushala Daora's ability to manipulate the wind.
- Mizzium Mortars - representing the ferocity of Yian Garuga.
- Village Rites - which will depict both Magnamalo and Tobi-Kadachi.
- Tooth and Nail - which will show both Azure Rathalos and Seregios.
And then there's The Hunters. Of course, Monster Hunter isn't just a game about monsters, it's also a game about the people who slay them, and the powerful equipment that they wield. The Hunters drop will focus on the titular Monster Hunters, featuring a fully armed character in each of magic's five colors. Namely, we're getting:
- Grand Abolisher - wearing Tigrex Armor, and wielding Bone Scythes (from Monster Hunter Freedom 2).
- Archaeomancer - in Velkhana Armor with a Slinger, and a Winged Seraphyd Greatsword (from Monster Hunter World Iceborne).
- Grim Haruspex - rocking some Nargacuga Armor, and aiming a Hidden Eye Light Bowgun (from Monster Hunter Freedom Unite).
- Imperial Recruiter - in "Rathalos Armor with Pouncing Graveclaws; Brachydios Armor with Burning Crusher; Gore Magala Armor and Royal Rose from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate".
- Champion of Lambholt - kitted out in Astalos Armor, with a Verdant Lightning Shield (from Monster Hunter Generations).
Nonfoil versions of of these drops will be available for $29.99 (£22.81), while a foil version will cost $39.99 (£30.41).
