When is the MTG Spider-Man release date? Marvel Spiderman is the second Universes Beyond set coming out in 2025, and the first in what we expect to be several Marvel Magic: The Gathering releases over the next couple of years.
This set is fast approaching now, and we've seen all 188 of the new cards, featuring Spider people aplenty and this hero's impressive Rogue's Gallery. You'll find previews of the highlights, and everything else we know about MTG Spiderman below, but you can also check other sets in our MTG release schedule breakdown.
MTG Spiderman release date
The penultimate Magic set of the year, MTG Spiderman is coming out on September 26, 2025. Like all other Universes Beyond sets, it'll be coming to MTG Arena, and the cards will be available digitally on September 23, a few days before the global release date.
However, for this set's digital release, Wizards of the Coast has created what it's calling a 'Through the Omenpaths' set. This means the Spiderman cards coming to Arena aren't Spiderman cards at all. They're reskinned versions, with the same rules text, but in-universe MTG art and names.
This seems to be happening thanks to licensing issues with Marvel, and is the plan going forwards whenever a license-holder doesn't want their cards appearing on Magic's digital platform.
The general pattern is that MTG sets have a prerelease a week before the full launch, where you can buy the new cards from Local Game Stores. And that's confirmed to be the same for this set too, which has prerelease on September 19.
MTG Spiderman spoilers
We're not going to show you all 188 MTG Spiderman cards here, but you will find the most important additions to the set. Check out our list of the biggest chase cards to find out which MTG Spiderman cards are the most valuable right now.
First up, here's regular ol' Peter Parker/Amazing Spider-Man, arguably the most classic take the set has on the character.
We also have The Soul Stone, the big powerful collectible of the set, and probably a sign that we aren't going to be finished with Marvel for an awfully long time.
This legendary artifact is a potent mana rock that belongs in basically any black deck. It's indestructible, costs only two mana and has a seven mana ability that will repeatedly bring creatures back to the battlefield.
Cosmic Spider-Man is the obligatory five-color commander you can play with all your Spider-Men. He grants a ton of keywords to spiders and is pretty damn powerful, if not all that interesting.
WotC did the meme - and on a pretty potent clone spell at that! Being able to make non-legendary copies is always great for any MTG commander that you'd like to have two copies of, and in a fliers deck or something, your board will get very big very quickly.
Eddie Brock/Venom is here as a classic Jund commander. I guess the idea here is he's saving (reviving) some people and consuming (sacrificing) others, to indicate his anti-hero nature.
There's also Gwenom, which is basically classic card Bolas' Citadel but in the command zone.
Spider-verse Characters
As you'd expect for possibly the strongest cards in their starter decks, Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales have mighty but simple effects. Both are quite aggressive: Gwen deals damage for each attacking creature you have while Miles buffs up your whole board.
These aren't the only appearances of these characters, however. Check out the transforming Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider card. She provides impulse draw and gains power when you cast stuff from exile.
And Miles Morales/Ultimate Spider-Man gets a card that can protect itself, a reference to his cloaking power.
Then we have a Peni who draws cards with modified creatures, a Noir Spider-Man who buffs creatures when they attack in solitude, and a Peter Porker who buffs up every kind of animal.
These cards also have alternate versions which, together, form an enormous panorama.
Like many other Magic sets, this release has a bonus sheet with 40 additional cards. These are reprints of classic MTG cards paired with classic comic book art.
There's some really good stuff in here, like Heroic Intervention!
Scene Box
The first cards revealed for MTG Spiderman were a scene box, six cards that slot together to make a complete collage. These include our first of many Spiderman cards, Sensational Spider-Man, as well as Doc Ock, Venom, and Green Goblin.
Green Goblin, interestingly, is goblin tribal, buffing up other MTG goblins when you discard cards. Venom can exile cards from graveyards to add their strength to himself, and Doc Ock can animate a random artifact, turning it into an 8/8.
Spider-Man himself, meanwhile, is Azorius colors. He can web up his enemies, tapping and putting stun counters onto creatures, or can remove stun counters to draw cards.
MTG Spiderman products
Like all other Standard sets, MTG Spiderman will be sold in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, the latter featuring foil cards, a higher chance at more rares, and more special art variants of regular cards.
However, in an unusual break from tradition, Wizards of the Coast is not releasing Commander precon decks for Spiderman. Instead of these, it's created 'Welcome Decks'. Similar to Jumpstart packs, these boxes contain prebuilt decks consisting of two mono-color 'half decks' slapped together.
This gives us some idea of the company's expectations for the set. Clearly, it's trying to double down on one of Universes Beyond's main mission statements and draw new customers to Magic. A prebuilt, lower power Constructed deck is going to be a more approachable starting point for most than jumping in at the deep end with Commander. Wizards designers have also talked about making slightly fewer precons in the future, responding to complaints about product fatigue.
For collectors, however, the set also has has a scene box, six borderless cards that form a single image, selling for $41.99.
That's all we know about the upcoming Marvel Spiderman set so far, but stay tuned! We'll keep updating this page as more and more details are revealed.
