While Western Pokémon fans are still waiting Phantasmal Flames to release, fans of Japanese Pokémon cards have already got a new set to look forward to in late November 2025. Pokémon Mega Dream ex has officially been revealed, and while the 'high value' set hasn't got an English title yet, we do know that it comes with a Fusion Strike-style chase that you won't want to miss.
It's always the way - just as the newest Pokémon set is about to release for English collectors, Japanese Pokémon TCG players are already looking forwards to the next big expansion. As revealed by PokéBeach, Pokémon Mega Dream ex is launching Friday, November 28, 2025, and personally, I can't wait. Take my money now, please.
With 193 Pokémon common cards in the set, there are a further 50 IRs or SIRs on top of that to collect: the highest numbered we've seen so far is the Secret Art Rare of Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex at #243/193. While that's already a gorgeous-looking card, I'm personally hoping we get a Dragonite SIR - which seems quite likely given the 'mon is the mascot of Mega Dream ex.

And there's a new card type to collect - Mega Attack rares. These were announced at Pokémon Worlds 2025 (you can find our coverage here, with images), and feature manga-inspired lettering for their attacks. The Japanese version of Mega Dream ex has English attack phrases, while the English version (which is expected to release early 2026) will have Japanese attacks.
While I'm excited for the over-exaggerated artwork and for a new special set to waste all of my hard-earned money on, I'm most excited for what will no doubt be Mega Dream ex's most valuable card - Mega Gengar ex #240/193. Much like Fusion Strike's Gengar VMAX #271, which shot up in value after the Pokémon hype bubble kicked off late last year, I expect this new, imposing, and visually appealing take on the haunting 'mon to reach a similarly high value.
Of course, that's all speculation. We can never know for sure whether a set or a specific card will shoot up in value, or potentially fall flat after it becomes readily available, but considering how… well, every expansion has gone recently, I expect it to be highly sought after. However, we'll have to see the rest of the card selection from Mega Dream ex before we can place bets on its biggest chases.

Pre-orders for the new set haven't started in the West just yet, but you can keep an eye on the retailers below to get your booster box from. For reference, Japanese booser boxes contain ten packs of ten cards, not the 36 boosters you get from a typical Western booster box.
