You can get a Pokémon Mega Evolution booster box at retail price, if you're quick

Best Buy is offering you a chance to secure a Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution booster box at retail price, but you’ll have to be fairly lucky.

The only thing truly mega about Pokémon Mega Evolution is the sheer fact that it's mega annoying I cannot find any. None of my local card stores currently have any stock of these fiendishly in-demand Pokémon cards, and by the time I reach the checkout online, it's gone. However, things don't have to be this way, and if you're lucky, you could get your hands on a Mega Evolution booster box, full of 36 packs, for retail price, skipping those all too familiar upcharges right now.

Like many other Pokémon TCG expansions, Mega Evolution is currently a victim of the ongoing shortages, causing many of the chases to become ridiculously expensive. That in turn makes many collectors go into a frenzy looking for the set's most expensive Pokémon cards, and with stock flying off the shelves anyway, third-party sellers are charging a premium to let you rip those packs.

Both of the Gold Ultra Rare cards - the Mega Lucario Ex #188 and Mega Gardevoir Ex #187 - are sitting at over $500 each to buy as singles, while the SIR versions of these beloved Pokémon are priced above the $300 mark in average sold listings. All four are gorgeous-looking cards, but in all honesty, I don't think they're worth that much. I'd much rather chase them by ripping open booster packs, and take the chance I'm lucky.

It doesn't help that, if you're looking to buy a Mega Evolution booster box, which is typically the most cost-effective way to rip open a bunch of packs and pull that grail, you can expect to spend roughly $275 on third-party listings right now, making this one of the pricier Pokémon sets to spend your money on. That's not an issue exclusive to this set, but it's frustrating that you can't just walk into a store and buy it randomly, or even - just imagine it - on sale! Those were the days.

However, there is an opportunity to get a booster display at the usual price. Right now, there are invites to buy a Pokémon Mega Evolution booster box from Best Buy, and while there's no guarantee that you'll get to be one of those lucky customers, that's still a chance worth taking. All you need to do is click the link here and apply to receive an invitation. After that? Well, cross your fingers and hope for the best.
