When they first released, the Mega Hyper Rare cards from the Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution expansion were absolutely unstoppable. Available in only, approximately, one in every 1,260 booster packs, any Mega Lucario ex, or Gardevoir ex cards in this stark yellow art treatment are worth significantly more than their weight in gold. Now, while these cards remain incredibly valuable, their prices aren't quite as bank busting as they were initially. Let's talk about it…
The golden Mega Lucario ex is the most costly card from the Mega Evolution expansion. At the height of the hype, between the 8th and the 11th October, according to data from TCGplayer, it was worth $721 (£547.91). Now, the card is worth "only" $501(£380). Yes, the word "only" is pulling a lot of weight there, but a $220 price drop certainly isn't nothing. November has been particularly rough for Lucario, as the card was worth $544 (£413) on the 31st October, meaning that more than $40 has been shaved off the price of the card in just nine days.
Mega Gardevoir ex, meanwhile, was worth $500 (£379) at the apex of its value in October, and is now worth $413 (£313), an almost 100 dollar drop.
While Lucario and Gardevoir are currently the only English language Mega Hyper Rare cards, they will lose this niche as more sets featuring this golden treatment are released . With Phantasmal Flames just around the corner, and an English printing of the Mega Hyper Rare Mega Charizard X ex looming in the near future, Pokémon fans are seemingly cooling on Lucario and Gardevoir, as they prepare for the new hotness of a shining golden Charizard.
