It's been over fifty years since the first Star Wars videogame appeared in an arcade, and hardly a year has gone by without another new release. While some of the titles to bear the Star Wars logo are pure bantha poodoo, many more are genuine classics - and right now you can grab Steam keys for fourteen of the best for just $19.99, a saving of $80, in a new Star Wars collection bundle being offered by Fanatical.
These are certainly not the most recent games, but fully half of them appear on our sister site PCGamesN's guide to the best Star Wars games ever, where they're up against modern AAA big hitters like Outlaws and Jedi Survivor. To slightly abuse a quote from Return of the Jedi: "It's older code, sir, but it checks out".
The deal ends at 4pm PT / 7pm EST / midnight GMT on Friday November 14. And to avoid simply rehashing PCGN's "best of" list, I'll point out a few titles that you may have overlooked because of their age or obscurity.
Republic Commando is an FPS that released at the very tail end of the original XBox's life cycle, and it got a little overshadowed by the looming launch of the XBox 360 and PS3 - which is a darn shame, because it slaps. It's a blend between classic run and gun and a tactical shooter, with three clone buddies you can give orders to during the mission. An underrated classic.
If you're a younger gamer who remembers the launch of Star Wars Battlefront II, you may not have fully understood why older gamers were so salty about it. That's because we remember the original Battlefront II, released in 2005 - a glorious multiplayer third person shooter that didn't require you to grind for hundreds of hours to unlock Darth Vader.
Star Wars: Empire at War isn't just the best Star Wars RTS game, it's one of the best RTS games full stop. It has some grand strategy elements as you build bases and defenses on different planets across the galaxy. Naval battles between Star Destroyers and rebel cruisers play out in orbit, and only then do ground troops commit to the fight. It's a real shame that there's never been a sequel - but the original still holds up.
If you've got a favorite Star Wars game on PC or console - or anecdotes from a great round of multiplayer lightsaber duels in Jedi Outcast - we'd love to hear about it in the official Wargamer Discord community!
